Midnight Studio, a publisher founded by Guy Beahm (better known by his streaming alter ego, Dr. DisRepect), just announced the cancellation of both itself and its upcoming game Deadrop, proving that “getting cancelled” and “Dr. DisRespect” will forever go hand in hand.

Deadrop was supposed to be a PvPvE-style extraction shooter, based on promo art released for the title. Promo art is the most you’ll ever see out of this game, however, following the announcement of Midnight Studio’s closure.

“Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers contributing to our new IP DEADROP,” Midnight Studio announced on Twitter.

“We are actively seeking other game studios that would be interested in offering employment opportunities to our talented team members.”

According to a report from Bloomberg last year, following the studio parting ways with Guy Beahm after the allegations made against him, Midnight Studio had raised roughly $24 million to help finance Deadrop’s production.

There’s no exact correlation between the allegations made against Beahm and Midnight Studio’s closure, but I think it’s fair to say that the resulting fallout probably didn’t do anything to help.

Honestly, though, I just feel pretty bad for the developers.

Midnight Studio made the morally correct decision to part ways with Beahm back in 2024, but by that point, the damage had already been done.

There’s no way you can really foresee that one of your company’s founders would end up tanking your studio’s image like this. And now, talented people are suddenly out of work and an interesting-looking project will be eternally shelved.

Hours of hard work and talent wasted, and none of it is Midnight Studio’s fault. Here’s hoping those affected can find new work as soon as possible.
