Rumours of a potential The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion remake have been circling online for years but a recent discovery hints at the highly-anticipated release coming sooner than we thought.

The rumours kicked off in earnest back in 2023 when a schedule for Bethesda’s upcoming titles leaked online.

In the leaked docket, a The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion remake was mentioned alongside titles such as a Fallout 3 Remaster, Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel and Dishonoured 3.

Since then, rumours settled down but just as we were getting used to the idea of not receiving a remaster, yet another well-known leaker was back with another claim.

Just last month, rumours about an Oblivion remaster/remake kicked off again thanks to well-known leaker Extra1s.

They claimed that the remaster is still in the works and it could even be announced as early as the next Xbox Developer Direct which takes place in early 2025.

Until then, however, a new discovery has been found on LinkedIn as an art director for Virtuos has recently updated their profile.

In it, they claim that they are working on “an unannounced UE5 PS5/XSX/PC remake”.

You may wonder how this refers to the Oblivion remaster but previous rumours have already connected Virtuos to the project so the timing is very convenient.

Of course, all of our information so far has come to us via leaks and rumours so it is worth taking it with a pinch of salt.

However, with The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion being as loved as it is, it would make sense for Bethesda to remake/remaster the almost 20-year old game.

Until then, Bethesda is hard at work on both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 so the studio already has enough on its plate so I wouldn’t be surprised if the Oblivion announcement did not arrive this year at all.
