The Day of the Jackal came to another tense conclusion in episode 6, when the Jackal found himself in a very different position to where he was just one episode earlier. The Day of the Jackal TV series is a reimagined and updated version of the 1973 film and the 1971 novel of the same name. The series has proven to be thrilling with electric performances from Eddie Redmayne as the Jackal and Lashana Lynch as Bianca Pullman.
The Jackal is an assassin who has been hired to kill one of the most powerful men in the world, Ulle Dag Charles, before he unveils a new program to the world that will make the flow of money more transparent. However, this mission is proving to be more challenging than the Jackal would have hoped, with him coming closer than ever to having his identity exposed, his marriage imploding, and his new employers watching closely over his shoulder.
Did The Jackal Just Cheat On His Wife?
The Jackal Just Went On A First Date With Another Guy
The Day of the Jackal episode 6 concludes with Jackal meeting up with a young man he met in the concert hall in Talinn, Estonia a short time before. Their interaction is extremely flirtatious and by the end of the night, Jackal returns home with Rasmus to his apartment. The pair then proceed to passionately kiss, with the pretense being that they proceeded to have sex. This clearly has implications for Jackal and his marriage, which is already on the rocks.
However, it is unlikely that Jackal is having an emotional connection with this man, despite his physical act of cheating on his beloved wife. Rasmus’ position makes him an asset that could be invaluable, and Jackal clearly has no qualms when it comes to doing illegal and immoral things to provide for his family. Before that moment, he lied to his wife about his work, his finances, and the fact that he kills people for a living.
MI6 And Local Police Are Hot On The Jackal’s Tail
Bianca Pullman Is Incredibly Close To Catching The Jackal
While MI6 has been hunting down the Jackal, they have never been closer to finally catching this criminal mastermind. While Bianca and her partner were due to jet off home to England after almost catching the Jackal in Hungary in episode 5, they were redirected to Talinn, Estonia by HQ. Coincidentally, the very same flight that the MI6 agents boarded was the same one that the Jackal flew on, albeit in disguise as an elderly man in a wheelchair. With MI6 so close to catching him, Jackal is likely feeling anxious about the variables of this mission.
In addition, when Jackal arrives at his hotel in Talinn, it isn’t long before he gets a knock on the door from local police. This interaction, with officers who saw his face, and the increased security all over Talinn likely led Jackal to formulate a new plan. In order to protect himself, and ensure the mission is a success, Jackal decided to reach out to his local contacts, and access unique methods of completing his mission.
The Jackal Is Using Rasmus To Create A Cover Story
Rasmus Is Set To Have His Heart Broken By The Jackal
Rasmus is a sweet young man who works at the concert hall. Initially, Jackal acquires his help to retrieve his phone, which he dropped while scoping out the area. Rasmus was kind and friendly, and Jackal asked for his number, which he could then make use of later. Being as meticulous and careful as he is, Jackal is looking for ways to cover himself, with a potential cover story, and a way to get exclusive access to the building where UDC is due to appear.
By going on a date, drinking in public, then returning to Rasmus’ home for the night, Jackal is laying down roots for a cover story, and building trust with Rasmus. He will likely try to manipulate this trust to then ask for a private tour of the concert hall, access to restricted areas, and potentially getting a way in or out of the building when he performs the assassination. So, while it seems like Jackal has just cheated on his wife while their marriage is on the rocks, it seems likely that he has ulterior motives that he feels justify and excuse his behavior. It doesn’t make it right, but it certainly raises the stakes for what is about to happen in The Day of the Jackal.
