A new open-world RPG just exploded onto the scene, and it’s the post-apocalyptic chaos you didn’t know you were craving. You’re not a hero. You’re barely surviving. Radiation storms, roving warlords, grotesque mutants — and you’re stuck in the middle, outgunned and alone.

This isn’t a polished utopia. It’s raw, dirty, dangerous — and totally addictive.

The potential you get when combining the influences from several games can be a winning formula for fans who want a bit of everything.

Take DREADZONE for example, it’s pretty clear to see where the developers were pulling from, as there’s a mixture of first-person shooters in the trailer and screenshots over on Steam.

The game will be heading into early access on 17 July 2025, and what you see is a pretty game visually, and one that offers a lot of possibilities.

DREADZONE hones in on the survival aspects of a Far Cry game, bringing in a vast open-world to explore.

It seems the game is also channelling the zombies and apocalyptic setting of a Fallout title, which is forever popular with players.

The devs describe it as a “survival game set in a deadly quarantine zone. Scavenge for resources, craft tools, build shelter, and survive against dangerous animals, zombies, mutants, and other survivors. Explore the zone where desperation drives everyone to do whatever it takes to survive.”

There’s everything you would expect in a survival game, from hunting animals and gathering materials, to constructing a base of operations and venturing out into danger.

On the surface, that sounds kind of cool, however this all comes with a massive disclaimer as the game appears to feature generative AI in its development.

This is marked on the Steam store page, which is admirable, however, when you watch the trailer which starts off with a cinematic, it’s clearly using AI to construct these sections.

Sure, the game could offer quite a lot beyond that, but it should be noted that if you’ve read this and visited the Steam page, liking what you see, it’s worth keeping this AI use in mind.

Approach this one with caution if you believe that generative AI shouldn’t be used in games.
