While the stakes are undoubtedly high, new reports from reliable sources provide a glimpse at the reason behind the gaming giant’s noticeable confidence in the wake of an impending financial crisis. According to these reports, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to rival Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in terms of sales figures.
Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey continues to be among Ubisoft’s most successful releases. Despite its departure from the series’ roots, it opened the IP up to a broad audience.
As Insider Gaming reports, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already secured around 300,000 pre-orders. These are impressive figures since the game is still over a month out, with marketing expected to pick up the pace closer to release.
For context, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey reached around 400,000 to 450,000 players on day one. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is now on track to achieve similar figures at release.
If Ubisoft’s latest blockbuster can sustain this momentum, it should sell close to 3.5 million units within the first month. Positive reviews and word of mouth could also boost sales to numbers as high as 4 million.
This would still be significantly less than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s 8 million sales during the same time period, but Ubisoft would likely be happy with the results. To put the figures into perspective, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently selling twice as fast as Star Wars Outlaws, the game Ubisoft dubbed a financial disappointment last year.
