Sony has finally backtracked on the need for PC players to register a PSN account in order to play PlayStation ports.

However, they are incentivising registration with in-game content and trophy support, in the hopes to push more PC players into signing up.

his comes after games like God of War: Ragnarök have been released on PC in recent months.

What this means for PC players is that if you own the game and decide to sign up for a PSN account, you will get access to things like DLC and other in-game exclusive content.

For God of War: Ragnarök, players will be able to snag the Black Bear armour set at the first ‘Lost Items’ chest in the Realm Between Realms.

This was previously only available via new game+, however, PSN accounts on PC will have access to it right away.

This will likely apply to all PC ports of PlayStation games going forward, but the incentive is starting with a few titles.

Also included are: the 2099 Spider-Man suit for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a skin for Ellie in The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and a Nora Valiant outfit for Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

While this is a great incentive for PC players, its success will depend on whether players want an extra step to playing a game for a simple skin that could have been unlocked in most cases.

Many players on social media are saying that PSN sign-in should have been optional from the start, but most are concerned that the games will still be region locked, which was a big complaint originally.

We’ll have to see if this reward scheme is a success – players might not be that bothered about Kratos looking a little different, or getting a jacket for Ellie.
