An enormous Fallout: New Vegas expansion has been unfortunately cancelled, but before you get it twisted, it’s for a good reason.

Given how enormous Fallout games are nowadays, it takes an awfully long time for one to launch, especially when Bethesda has other projects in mind like The Elder Scrolls VI that it wants to get out the door first.

Luckily, Bethesda is more than happy for fans to take its games and create expansions with them, with many basically being entirely new games that you can play for free.

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico was going to be one of those expansions for Fallout: New Vegas, but a recent update from the developer has confirmed development will no longer proceed.

The project lead Zapshock recently took to the mod’s official Discord server, providing an update that confirmed the cancellation of the project.

Zapshock explained that this decision was made to “prioritise my mental health and face reality” as the time and costs required to complete the project were just too great.

It’s a shame, but that’s a perfectly valid reason and no one has objected to that, no silly video game expansion is worth breaking someone over.

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico would have been very cool though. As you’ve probably guessed, it would have taken the series to the Mexico desert and given the player full control over their character’s backstory.

You could even choose to play as a ghoul if you wanted, something fans of the Fallout TV series would have eaten up.

Nevertheless, it was just a bit too ambitious to see the light of day, a shame but a necessary cancellation and there are other expansions out there to take its place so no harm done.
