The Night Agent dropped its explosive second season on Jan. 23 — and the spy thriller is already dominating Netflix’s charts in the U.S. Read on to learn when The Night Agent Season 3 is expected to premiere and why the wait will be shorter this time around.

Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent was created by Shawn Ryan, who also serves as showrunner for the hit series. After becoming the most-watched TV show of 2023, it came as no surprise when the streamer renewed the series for a third season in October 2024 — three months ahead of the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere.

“We’re so excited that our fans will get to watch season 2 of The Night Agent in early 2025, and we’ve been hard at work writing season 3 to deliver more breathless Peter Sutherland Night Action adventures to our rabid audience,” Ryan told Tudum at the time of the announcement.

Here’s everything you need to know so far about The Night Agent Season 3, including its anticipated release timeline, new and returning cast, potential plot details, and more.

Netflix has not announced a release date for The Night Agent Season 3, but the new season is expected to premiere in early 2026. Filming has been underway in Istanbul since 2024, with a New York shoot planned for 2025.

The release of The Night Agent Season 2 was delayed from 2024 to January 2025 due to the 2023 writers’ strike, which halted production when the writing for the season was a little over halfway complete on May 2, 2023. While there was a two-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2, this likely won’t be the case for Season 3.

Deadline reported in October that the wait “won’t be as long” for Season 3, as “Netflix clearly had commissioned a writers room to work on the new installment as filming will begin very soon with a production unit in Istanbul at the end of 2024 followed by a New York shoot in 2025.”

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Night Agent Season 2.

Season 3 of The Night Agent will follow Peter as he takes on a new mission as a double agent in the White House. In the Season 2 finale, viewers learn that the mysterious intelligence broker Jacob Monroe—who manipulated Peter into releasing his top assassin and stealing intelligence from the U.N.—is secretly working with presidential candidate Governor Hagan.

The information Peter helped retrieve from the U.N. revealed that Hagan’s opponent, former CIA Director Patrick Knox, had overseen the sale of Foxglove weapons and KX to Dictator Viktor Bala years earlier. This revelation forces Knox to withdraw from the race, leaving Hagan as the clear frontrunner for the presidency.

In the finale, Catherine presents Peter with an opportunity to atone for his questionable actions, including swaying the election in Hagan’s favor. Peter agrees to become a double agent to uncover the nature of Monroe’s relationship with Hagan. His mission is to first gain Monroe’s trust and identify the “snakes on his payroll,” then “expose” and “destroy” them. Catherine hands Peter a cell phone and instructs him to wait for Monroe to call.

As of January 2024, Gabriel Basso is the only confirmed cast member returning for Season 3 of The Night Agent. However, based on how Season 2 wrapped up, it’s likely that Amanda Warren will reprise her role as Catherine, Louis Herthum as Jacob Monroe, and Ward Horton as Governor Hagan.

It’s unknown whether Peter’s sidekick and love interest, Rose, played by Luciane Buchanan, will appear in Season 3 after she and Peter called it quits at the end of Season 2. However, there’s always a chance that she’ll return in future seasons of the show.

Several newcomers are set to join the third season of The Night Agent. David Lyons, Jennifer Morrison, Stephen Moyer, Genesis Rodriguez, and Callum Vinson will appear as series regulars, while Suraj Sharma will take on a recurring role.

The specific roles of the new cast members remain unclear, but Deadline reported that Lyons is expected to portray a former spy pulled out of retirement, Morrison will play the First Lady, Moyer will take on the role of a top hitman, and Rodriguez will appear as a reporter. Stay tuned for more details.
