Finally, Sony is making a long-awaited change to how PlayStation games are played on PC with some titles rewarding players with bonus DLC.

Over the years, Sony PlayStation has blessed us with some fantastic first-party properties such as Uncharted, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, The Last of Us, and much more.

Recently, PC gamers have been able to enjoy some of those first-party properties but one major caveat has understandably frustrated the masses.

In 2022, it was made so that access to PlayStation titles on PC required a mandatory PSN account. This requirement annoyed gamers, to say the least, which resulted in critically acclaimed titles such as God of War Ragnarök being review-bombed.

The PSN requirement might be fine for some, but not so much for those who live in countries where PSN is not available. Meaning that some may not be able to play the games they’ve paid for.

Thankfully, Sony has made a much-welcomed U-turn recently by dropping the mandatory PSN requirement for some of its PC ports. Granted, it won’t be for every game but it’s at least a step in the right direction.

“An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC,” said Asad Qizilbash, SVP head of publishing. “Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management.”

For those games that are linked to your PSN account on PC, gamers will not only be able to earn PlayStation trophies, but some will reward you with bonus DLC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered are all included in that offer.

For Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, PC users who do link to a PSN account will secure access to an early free unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit.

I can understand to an extent having a PSN requirement for multiplayer games, especially when it comes to cross-play titles, but it shouldn’t be mandatory for single-player games, in my opinion.

That being said, if you do link your account, at least Sony is offering players some form of incentive.
