The recent success of Monster Hunter Wilds has pushed it to new heights, at the cost of updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Monster Hunter Wilds has been quite the success story for Capcom, with the title amassing a record breaking number of players on just Steam alone – making it the fastest selling game in Capcom’s history.
While the game is undoubtedly great, it does seem to overshadow a lot of its siblings, such as the equally positively reviewed Dragon’s Dogma 2. Dragon’s Dogma 2, much like Wilds, was also a sequel to an already well-established game, and earned rave reviews on launch.
The success of Wilds did come at a cost though, with Dragon’s Dogma 2 being part of the fallout.

Monster Hunter Wilds received a tremendously positive response from the community, which culminated in Capcom releasing a special stream that offered its first major content drop set for a Summer 2025 launch date.
Of particular interest in this update would be Mizutsune, who arrives as a new monster to hunt. Additional content includes the Grand Hub for better endgame hunting parties, as well as new, upcoming hunts. Arena quests, outfits and proper DLC expansions are also confirmed to be on the way, along with title update 2 – which is very likely to feature Lagiacrus.
It should be noted that title update 1 is a free update for all players, across all platforms. Clearly, Capcom has left no stone unturned for Monster Hunter Wilds, opting to give back to its community.
This stands in clear contrast to Dragon’s Dogma 2, which only received a celebratory tweet today. For the uninitiated, Dragon’s Dogma 2 celebrates its first anniversary today, and is considered as one of the best sequels ever made by Capcom.

The X post goes into more detail, offering players a set of images and assets to download freely. This is quite the disappointing ‘update’, since it brings with it basically nothing.
Players have been asking for a dedicated hard mode, among other quality of life improvements, for quite some time now, and Capcom is yet to deliver on the same. The game has also yet to receive a proper expansion, which coupled with its release anniversary,y makes things all the more unfortunate to witness.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be considered as being effectively abandoned by Capcom, who seems to be focusing its resources on Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6 instead.
Admittedly, Capcom could be too preoccupied with Wilds‘ success, and have simply shifted their priorities over to a more successful game. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is, after all, quite an old game at this point, and it makes little sense for Capcom to push updates for it (outside of the usual DLCs), in addition to being a single player game.

There is little doubt that Monster Hunter Wilds has been quite the success story for Capcom. The title has managed to break records, and garner a massive number of players – especially on Steam which is quite surprising.
This is despite the optimization issues (which they are hopefully still on track to address), and Wilds‘ lenient, beginner-friendly approach made it an instant hit amongst players – both newcomers and veterans alike.
How it will shape up to be with recent updates, remains to be seen, however.
