The reason behind Ryan Reynolds’ “strongly worded” dinners with Scarlett Johansson during Green Lantern was not current wife Blake Lively.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are one of Hollywood’s most famous couples of all time. Often described as couple goals, their relationship and chemistry have a separate fan base and fans couldn’t get enough of their impeccable chemistry.

The duo first met while filming the critically bombed film, Green Lantern, and later rumors started that the two were having an affair. However, that might not be the case even though Reynolds once remarked that he had strongly worded dinners with his then-wife Scarlett Johansson.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were in supposedly happy relationships when they met each other for the first time. While Reynolds was married to Scarlett Johanson, Lively was dating Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley.

By the time their movie Green Lantern came out in 2011, they had broken up with their respective partners and rumors were there that they were allegedly having an affair. While they have strongly denied such rumors, Reynolds once shared an interesting anecdote about his relationship with Johansson that had nothing to do with Lively.

Back in 2010, during the press tour of the failed DC film, the actor was asked how was it at home since his then-wife was playing a Marvel character (Black Widow in Iron Man 2). And he hilariously replied— We’ve had strongly worded dinners to the delight of the audience.

Despite the rumors of cheating and affairs, Reynolds in his own way quietly turned them off by stating all was well in his marriage. However, in hindsight, we all know what happened since their marriage deteriorated soon after.

Why did Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson separate?

From cheating to affairs, many alleged causes have been listed as the reason why Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johnsson’s marriage ended. Yet, the two have remained tight-lipped about their romance and we still do not know what ultimately made them part ways.

Back in December 2010, when the couple separated, they issued the following statement to PEOPLE.

After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.

Moreover, as per a source, it was Johansson who initiated their separation. Later, in an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, the actress remarked that relationships are complicated and that it takes a lot of work to make them work.
