Steam Charts Paint a Very Grim Picture for Atomfall’s Survival as Bethesda Works on Fallout 5

Rebellion’s Atomfall looked like a dream to play but yet it is failing now, but why is that? Let’s find out together.

Atomfall and Fallout 5

Have you ever wanted to experience surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, especially in one that has been destroyed by nuclear missiles and there is radiation around you, but have seen everything that Fallout has to offer? Then Atomfall is the perfect game for you.

Atomfall was a huge success when it came out on March 27, 2025, but the condition of the game now is looking sort of severe, especially in the PC market, where Bethesda currently reigns its empire with Fallout. Let’s delve deeper into this and find out why the new game is failing like this.

Atomfall might not last long in the PC market

Atomfall came out with a bang in March, and people were kind of in shock that there was another game that was similar to the Fallout series. The game is developed by Rebellion Developements, and although the title’s gameplay and world-building are sort of similar to the Fallout games, it instead takes place in the Northern part of England during the 1960s.

The game has garnered more than 2 million players this week, and while this is a major milestone for the game and the development company, beneath the surface of the initial success, the numbers tell a different story, especially in the PC market. According to the data from SteamDB, Atomfall is currently averaging only 500-700 players per day on Steam.

This is a sharp decline if we compare how popular the game was during its launch. While the majority of the player base is in consoles, the game’s foothole in the PC market is rapidly eroding, and this decline couldn’t have come at a worse time.

With Fallout 5 officially in development, Rebellion Developments risks being overshadowed by rival developers. Bethesda already has a huge hold over the market, and the Fallout series commands a loyal and expansive fanbase that Atomfall will not be able to overthrow. Any new entry in the Fallout series will definitely make the most headlines and will completely slam any sort of brief popularity that Atomfall enjoyed.

Atomfall feels like one of those games that was going on the right track yet lost its way in the middle. The game turned heads when it was released, but it didn’t take long for PC players to realize that if they want to play a post-apocalyptic survival shooter that is based in Northern England, then they can just play Fallout 4 London.

Bethesda’s Fallout series isn’t just a game, it’s an entire event that people are excited for and have been for years, and with Fallout 5 looming over Rebellion’s new game, it is extremely likely that Atomfall will be swept under the rug.

While the game is not that bad, and we genuinely hope that it can find its footing in the trenches of this competitive world, the title’s timing couldn’t have been worse, especially when they are in the ring with the champions.
