Warhorse Studios Drops a Medieval Bombshell: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Devs Spill the Tea on Adding LGBTQ Relationships to Dodge Sexism Drama—Gamers Are Already Sharpening Their Pitchforks!

Hold onto your longswords, gaming crusaders—Warhorse Studios just thrust Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 into the spotlight with a wild revelation! Director Daniel Vávra has confessed that the game’s optional LGBTQ relationships, like the steamy player-choice romance with Sir Hans Capon, were tossed into the mix to sidestep accusations of sexism that plagued their first title. After the original KCD caught flak for its mostly male-driven tale, the team decided to spice up this sequel—set in the gritty chaos of 15th-century Bohemia—with diverse romance options. Launched on February 4, 2025, the game’s already a smash hit, but this move’s got the community buzzing louder than a tavern brawl. While some hail it as a bold power-up for player freedom in this ultra-realistic RPG, others are crying “woke” faster than you can say “DEI checkpoint.” With over 64,000 players storming Steam at launch and “Very Positive” reviews piling up, it’s clear KCD 2’s swinging for the fences—but will this gamble win the war or just fuel the culture clash? Grab your armor and dive in, because this medieval epic’s serving drama hotter than a blacksmith’s forge!

Despite being a huge hit, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 had its fair share of controversies. The backlash over “forced DEI” and “wokeness” even led the game’s director to clap back at the fans.

While many thought that the forced DEI was added to the game due to Embracer Group’s involvement with the sequel, the director has a different reason behind it. The LGBTQ relationship in the game was added to avoid sexism allegations.

Why it matters: Video games will always be controversial, regardless of the reasons. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s director chose to add LGBT relationships to avoid sexism accusations, which in turn led to even more allegations.

The latest episode of the Czech show saw guest Daniel Vavra, the writer and director behind Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. On the topic of a romance option for the game, which included males too, Vavra said this:

By adding (LGBTQ) relationships to the game, we were able to avoid accusations of sexism against us.

For those unfamiliar with it, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 features several romance options that are not limited to women. In fact, players can romance Sir Hans Capon.

However, doing so is completely optional. It requires discussing the dialogue options over several conversations, with the players making the final choice. kcd 2 black characterMusa Of Mali Is The Series’ First Black Character
This isn’t the only controversy the game has faced so far. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 debuted the series’ first black character, Musa of Mali.

Fans slammed the character’s inclusion as forced and historically inaccurate, but in reality, such an addition was in response to the critics’ complaints about the lack of diversity in the first game.
