It’s been a month since the release of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredand players still can’t get enough of it. Bethesda and Virtuos Studios have served players an upgraded and enhanced version of the beloved 2006 RPG, and it’s fantastic. It’s really a nostalgic trip down memory lane, reminding us of the golden days of Bethesda.

When Oblivion Remastered dropped, concerns were raised over fan-made projects such as Skyblivion. Many speculated that Bethesda would do its best to prevent the launch of the mod. However, that wasn’t the case, as the Skyblivion team received keys for Oblivion Remastered. Some of its members were even invited to visit Bethesda’s headquarters and meet Todd Howard, the man himself.

Oblivion Remastered doesn’t mean the end of Skyblivion

For those who’re unaware, Skyblivion is a project that kicked off all the way back in 2012 with the intent of porting classic Oblivion into the Skyrim engine. As the years went by, the mod turned into a full-blown remake of the 2006 RPG, and the project is all set to release at some point in 2025.

As we’ve stated before, there were concerns if the project would even hit the shelves as Bethesda dropped its own Oblivion Remastered. However, it seems like Howard and his team are keen on the fan project. Rebelzize, the lead developer of Skyblivion, has taken to Twitter/X and revealed photos of both teams together.

Bethesda welcomed the mod’s development team to its headquarters for a behind-the-scenes look at where all the magic begins. Rebelzize thanked Howard and his team for showing the Skyblivion developers around the office. For the developer, seeing the hype from Bethesda’s team for Skyblivion was “absolutely unreal”

Even Bethesda responded warmly to Rebelzize’s post and stated that it was a pleasure for the studio to host the Skyblivion team. Longtime fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise who are also hyped up for the Skyblivion project are happy to see such a positive vibe between both development teams.

Let’s hope Howard and his team can show a similar level of appreciation for other modding teams that have completely overhauled the Elder Scrolls games.

Everyone knew that the rumored Oblivion Remastered would be a smash hit right upon its release, and that indeed proved to be the case.

Within two weeks of release, the game became the third-best-selling title of 2025, right behind Monster Hunter Wilds and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Its sales figures have only grown, and now they have even exceeded those of the 2006 title.

Reputable industry analyst Mat Piscatella has taken to BlueSky and stated that Oblivion Remastered shipped more copies in April 2025 than the original Oblivion ever managed to do in its initial 15-month window. The remaster also generated more revenue in April alone than the original game did in 14 months.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Bethesda will be able to carry forward this momentum with The Elder Scrolls 6.

With that said, are you excited about the Skyblivion project? Let us know in the comments below.
