Since his debut back in 2009, Ezio has become one of the most famous faces in gaming history and now over a decade on and his popularity has still not faded.
Introduced in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2, Ezio Auditore de Firenze is the most popular assassin in the long-running series and despite his last appearance being in 2011’s Assassin’s Creed Revelations, many of us still get to see him more than we see actual members of our family.
That is because fellow developers and studios are not afraid to add him to other franchises and as a result, Ezio has appeared in Fall Guys, Fortnite and many more games.
Now he is set to appear in yet another and this time it is the doomed XDefiant.
With Ubisoft announcing that it will unfortunately be sunsetting its free-to-play FPS, XDefiant in June 2025, its brand-new Assassin’s Creed style update is bittersweet for fans.
With a poor player account that has made the game unable to sustain, XDefiant is in its twilight period but with developers still hoping to release the updates they had planned over the next few months, Ezio’s appearance will be one of them.
“So here it is! Our last content patch for XDefiant.
It’s obviously a bittersweet moment but I just want to say how proud I am of everyone on this team that did everything they could to make this game and all of its amazing content,” the announcement read.
We are adding 3 new factions this patch with the Assassin’s of course that was planned for Season 3 but also Wolves and Omega Force from Seasons 4 and 5 respectively.”
The excitement kicked off with the brand-new XDefiant title page which not only includes the Ezio-like skin but also a reimagined version of the much-loved Ezio’s Family score.
First heard in Assassin’s Creed 2, the music by Jesper Kyd went on to become one of the most-loved soundtracks in gaming so hearing it reimagined is going down well with fans.
“When you casually cook the best iteration of the Family theme since AC2 and it’s in the game on the death spiral,” one comment read over on r/assassinscreed.
Another read: “So much better than the original actually! It’s kinda sad that they did it for a non-AC game though. Would love it as a main theme for a new game!”
