After going through a rough patch during the launch, Gray Zone Warfare rose to huge glory and is looking to push all the boundaries.

Gray Zone Warfare was a welcome surprise when it was made available in Early Access on April 30 last year. With plenty to offer for both casual and die-hard players, it immediately became one of the best tactical shooter games. Although Gray Zone Warfare wasn’t flawless like any other Early Access game, players could see its enormous potential right away, making it a worthwhile game to spend some time with.

The reason the game has been so successful thus far is because of its emphasis on realism in the expansive Lamang Island game area, which produced an experience distinct from other tactical shooters. Despite the financial success, the game had a fair share of issues, which MADFINGER Games was able to solve gradually.
Despite a rocky launch, Gray Zone Warfare has sold over 1.5 million units so far

According to the recent press release, MADFINGER Games put all the resources at stake to make Gray Zone Warfare. Even the company didn’t have any money to cover the salaries of the employees and everything depended on this shooter title’s release. The game succeeded so much that it overwhelmed everyone’s expectations, and MADFINGER Games started to breathe in yet again.
The company sold over 1 million units of the base game and over 500k units of the various enhanced editions. There were several issues with the game initially, for example: over infestation of bugs and glitches, improper movement model, risky execution of genre-blending, and many more. However, the relentless efforts from the developers didn’t stop the company from selling over 1.5 million units as MADFINGER has released a total of 14 hotfixes and 3 patches so far.
No one expected that a new game in this overcrowded PvP and PvE shooter genre would garner so much support from the community. But it wasn’t a regular multiplayer shooter. Everyone loved GZW‘s slow-paced-one-shot-and-you-are-dead style extraction FPS gameplay that too in an open-world setting.
There are deathmatches, quests, and missions, and what distinguishes GZW from some of its rivals is its increased realism, especially in relation to the healthcare system. For instance, if you were struck in the arm, you can bandage it, but your aim will be compromised, and you might not be able to carry as much gear. In addition to AI factions, there are other players to compete with.
What’s next for Gray Zone Warfare?

It seems the developers at MADFINGER are content with the success of GZW as many things are yet to unfold. Despite the love from the fans, the developers have taken a pledge to be fully dedicated to the game’s full potential despite being in its pre-alpha stage. They have also promised us to keep “delivering an experience that sets a new standard in our genre.”
What’s next? MADFINGER has revealed its main focus will be “resolving current issues, optimizing performance, and enhancing stability” as the company is rolling out two major updates. These updates will bring more in-depth lore and storytelling, more extensive PvP content, and the debut of a dynamic weather system.
These are just a glimpse of what we will be actually getting in the future as “this is only the beginning” and the developers are committed to pushing the boundaries of what GZW can achieve. A detailed overview of the first one of those two updates will be shared in the coming weeks.
The Night Ops update, which MADFINGER released a few weeks ago, was a turning point for the game and caused it to reach new heights in terms of Steam review sentiment. Now, it’s up to the developers if they can maintain the momentum and stay true to their words.
