Fallout 5 leak massively roasted by fans, and we can see why

Thanks to the recent success of Prime Video’s Fallout television adaptation, interest in the Fallout gaming series has never been so high.

However, with Bethesda seemingly not being in any rush to release Fallout 5, many players are having to make do with previous instalments, especially Fallout 4 and Fallout 76.

Although fans don’t expect Fallout 5 to be released any time soon, especially considering that Bethesda has only recently wrapped up development on its latest RPG, Starfield and is also working on development for The Elder Scrolls VI, our most recent update is still a low blow.

Speaking in a 2024 episode of The Xbox Two podcast, co-host Jez Corden revealed that Xbox would like to see Fallout 5 be released before The Elder Scrolls VI.

Additionally, he expects that we could be waiting a decade at least for the launch of the highly-anticipated Fallout 4 sequel.

As you can imagine, this long wait has not been received well by fans and they took to r/gamingnews to share their frustrations.

One comment, since deleted, read, “Why did they waste so much time on Starfield?”

This seems to be a shared sentiment, considering Starfield received mixed reviews from its players with criticism for its empty open-world and unoriginal gameplay.

For user John_Doe4269, there is not much faith left for Bethesda.

“Honestly? I think after Starfield, they’ve really got to start re-evaluating their priorities when it comes to game design,” they shared.

“Hopefully they’ll hand it over to a B-team, so maybe we can see Obsidian have a crack at it.

I know they’re working on TES6, hopefully they’ll take a look at this renaissance in the RPG genre over the last ~15 years and try to get out of Todd Howard’s brain.”

Obsidian is perhaps best known for their work on Fallout: New Vegas and more recently, brand-new RPG Avowed and so many falls of the original Fallout titles would love to see that team return.

However, Bethesda is remaining tight-lipped about development progress so it could very well be many years until we finally get our hands on Fallout 5.
