In a behind-the-scenes interview for Netflix, Seo-hawn discussed his tragic death scene, specifically focusing on his final moments with Gi-hun, who led the rebellion at the end of season 2. The Jung-bae actor revealed that his character didn’t blame Gi-hun for his death and actually wanted to apologize to him for not finishing his role in the rebellion. Read his full comment below:
Things don’t work out, and so I end up getting shot. And even after being shot, I continue to look at Gi-hun until my last breath as he is in my sight. But even in that moment, I’m not blaming him for my death. Instead, I want to apologize for not finishing my role.
What Seo-hwan’s Comments Mean For Squid Game Season 2’s Ending
Jung-bae Was Gi-hun’s Best Friend In Squid Game

Years after the events of Squid Game season 1, the show’s sophomore season sees Gi-hun reenter the games to help the new batch of players, including Jung-bae. Jung-bae only appeared in two episodes of season 1, but it was well-established that he and Gi-hun were best friends. Gi-hun even asked Jung-bae for money so that he didn’t have to play the games in season 1, which makes them playing together in Squid Game season 2 all the more tragic.
Jung-bae’s death ensures that Squid Game season 2 ends with Gi-hun at his most hopeless point.
Gi-hun and Jung-bae are close allies throughout season 2 and are fully committed to the rebellion. Gi-hun and Jung-bae almost make it to the manager’s office at the end of Squid Game season 2, but Jung-bae is killed right before the season cuts to black. His death ensures that season 2 ends with Gi-hun at his most hopeless point. Not only did Gi-hun’s rebellion fail in the end, but he also lost his closest friend and will have to live with that guilt. The show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, teased that this death would be key in the showdown between Gi-hun and the Front Man.
Our Take On Jung-bae’s Death At The End Of Squid Game Season 2
Jung-bae’s Death Will Deeply Affect Gi-hun In Squid Game Season 3

Jung-bae’s death at the end of season 2 was heartbreaking and will have lasting repercussions in the upcoming Squid Game season 3. The Front Man chose to keep Gi-hun alive at the end of season 2 because he wanted him to live with the fact that his mission led to the deaths of countless innocent people. Therefore, even though Seo-hawn claimed that Jung-bae doesn’t blame Gi-hun for his death in Squid Game, it is likely that Gi-hun won’t see it that way.
