🚨 HOLY SH*T. The EUPHORIA Season 3 trailer just dropped and it’s a full-blown MEXICAN CARTEL NIGHTMARE. 😳💉
Rue is MISSING. Zendaya looks like she’s one bad night away from a body bag. Cassie is… working the pole in Tijuana? And Fezco’s little brother Ashtray is ALIVE (???) and holding an AK like it’s a teddy bear. And Nate Jacobs? That psycho is south of the border wearing a gold chain thicker than his daddy issues, smiling like he just bought the whole damn city.
HBO literally titled the season “SOUTH OF THE BORDER” and the 2-minute trailer is pure chaos: neon strip clubs, desert shootouts, Rue narrating over a coffin being lowered, and a final shot of someone OD’ing while “Ave Maria” plays in Spanish.
This isn’t high-school drama anymore. This is Narcos meets Requiem for a Dream, and Sam Levinson is not holding back.
Fans are already screaming: “They’re gonna kill Rue!” “Ashtray fake-death confirmed!” “Sydney Sweeney in that outfit should be illegal.”
Watch the trailer before HBO yanks it for being too insane. Link in comments. Who’s surviving Season 3? Place your bets below. I’ve got $20 on nobody. 👇🔥

After four long delays, cast controversies, and the devastating 2024 passing of Angus Cloud, the official trailer for Euphoria Season 3 finally premiered during Sunday’s The Last of Us finale, and it is darker, bloodier, and more unhinged than even the most depraved fan theories predicted.
Titled “South of the Border,” the two-minute teaser confirms months of set leaks out of Tijuana and Mexico City: Sam Levinson has taken East Highland’s broken teens and dropped them straight into a neon-soaked cartel war zone. And from the looks of it, almost nobody is making it out alive.
The trailer opens with a long way from the California suburbs fans remember. A shaky handheld shot races through a dusty Mexican street market at night. Spanish rap blares. We see quick flashes: Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie Howard on a glitter-lit stage in lingerie, dollar bills raining down; Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs in a white linen suit, gold Rolex flashing as he shakes hands with tattooed narcos; Hunter Schafer’s Jules Vaughn running barefoot through an alley, mascara streaking down her face; and then, the gut punch: Zendaya’s Rue Bennett, gaunt and hollow-eyed, staring directly into camera with a bruised lip.
“I used to pray for times like this,” Rue narrates in that familiar deadpan whisper. Cut to black. Gunshots. A body bag being zipped.
Then the title card hits in dripping red: EUPHORIA: SOUTH OF THE BORDER – 2026.
HBO dropped the trailer with zero warning and zero chill. Within three hours it racked up 28 million views on YouTube, crashed Max’s servers for 11 minutes, and sent #Euphoria and #AshtrayIsAlive trending worldwide.
Here’s every insane detail we could freeze-frame before our eyes bled:
-
Rue Bennett is officially missing. The trailer shows missing-person flyers with Zendaya’s face plastered across Tijuana telephone poles. The last shot of Rue is her slumped in the back of a windowless van, track marks fresh, while someone off-screen injects something into her neck. Levinson has repeatedly said Season 3 explores “the cost of Rue’s relapse.” Looks like the cost might be her life.
Ashtray is somehow alive. Yes, the 14-year-old who took a bullet to the head in the Season 2 finale is back, now sporting a scar across his cheek and dual-wielding pistols in what appears to be a cartel shootout. Javon “Wanna” Walton, now 19 and shredded, confirmed in a cryptic Instagram post last month: “Death ain’t permanent in this world.” Fans are calling it the biggest TV fake-out since Jon Snow.
Cassie has fully spiraled into sex work. Sydney Sweeney spent months learning pole choreography in Mexico City for scenes that make Season 2’s carousel meltdown look PG-rated. One shot shows her counting a stack of hundreds while crying in a cracked mirror. Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) watches from the doorway, arms crossed, whispering, “This isn’t you, Cass.”
Nate Jacobs is thriving (and that’s terrifying). Jacob Elordi, now 6’5″ and built like an NFL linebacker, appears to have partnered with a Sinaloa-style cartel. He’s seen sipping tequila with men who have AK-47s on the table, then later strangling someone in a hotel suite while laughing. Cal Jacobs is nowhere in sight, leading to speculation Nate finally snapped and went full successor.
Fez is… complicated. While Angus Cloud tragically passed away in July 2024, the trailer includes archival footage and voiceovers of Fez narrating to Rue from beyond the grave. New character “Rico” (played by Mexican actor Diego Calva of Babylon fame) appears to be Fez’s cousin who takes over the drug operation and is sheltering (or imprisoning?) the East Highland crew.
New cast members include Grammy-nominated rapper Peso Pluma in a currently unknown role (fans think he’s the cartel heir Nate is courting) and Colman Domingo as a mysterious priest who keeps showing up at crime scenes.
Behind the scenes, production has been a war zone of its own. Filming began in February 2025 after a 14-month delay caused by the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, Cloud’s death, and reported creative clashes between Levinson and HBO execs. Barbie Ferreira (Kat) and Storm Reid (Gia) confirmed they would not return, while Maude Apatow’s Lexi is only scheduled for three episodes. Insiders say Levinson rewrote the entire season arc after Cloud’s passing, turning it into “a requiem for everyone we’ve lost.”
Cinematographer Marcell Rév, who shot the first two seasons like a fever dream, told Variety the Mexico episodes are “the most expensive television ever filmed, period.” Drone shots of desert massacres, a 360-degree club sequence reportedly costing $4 million, and practical blood squibs that left the Tijuana set looking like a slaughterhouse.
The tone shift is deliberate. Levinson has described Season 3 as “a noir film on acid” and “what happens when children of privilege collide with real evil.” Early test-screening reactions leaked on Deuxmoi claim audiences were “visibly shaking” and one viewer vomited during a torture scene.
HBO is betting big. The network moved Euphoria from Sunday nights to a global Saturday 9 p.m. slot to maximize international streaming, paired it with a $40 million marketing blitz (including billboards in Spanish across Los Angeles and Mexico City), and greenlit a companion aftershow hosted by A24 darling Rachel Sennott.
But the gamble comes with risk. Parents’ Television Council already condemned the trailer as “glorifying child exploitation and narco-terrorism.” Religious groups in Mexico protested filming locations. And #CancelEuphoria trended for 48 hours before being drowned out by thirsty TikToks set to the trailer’s slowed-down “Ave Maria” remix.
Seventeen years after the original Israeli series aired, and six years after Levinson’s American adaptation shocked the world with its explicit take on Gen-Z trauma, Euphoria is no longer about high-school parties and toxic relationships. It’s about survival.
When the final frame hits, Rue’s voice returns one last time: “I always thought I’d die in East Highland. Turns out the reaper speaks Spanish.”
Fade to black. Release date card: 2026.
The internet has one unified response: We are absolutely not ready.
