Brooke Shields reveals Tom Cruise’s apology after his antidepressant rant and the mystery of his missing Christmas cakes.

Actress Brooke Shields has opened up about the fallout from Tom Cruise’s infamous 2005 rant against her use of antidepressants, revealing he eventually apologized.

The controversy began when Cruise, 61, criticized Shields, 59, during an interview on The Today Show for using antidepressants to combat postpartum depression, as detailed in her book Down Came The Rain.

Cruise said at the time: “Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman.”

“You look at, where has her career gone?…These drugs are dangerous.”

Shields fired back, saying: “Has he had a baby? Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women decide which treatment is best for them.”

In her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, Shields revealed that Cruise later apologized in person. “It wasn’t the world’s best apology, but it’s what he was capable of, and I accepted it,” she wrote.

The actress later explained that she was ‘sticking up for herself’ against ‘irrational and dangerous comments from an unschooled actor who was speaking way out of his depth’ while also ‘spurr[ing] discussions on the reality and prevalence of postpartum depression.’

In 2006, Shields told Jay Leno that Cruise came to her house to apologize, saying: “He gave me a heartfelt apology for everything that happened.” However, his spokesperson clarified at the time that Cruise’s stance on antidepressants remained unchanged.

Shields also revealed that Cruise mysteriously stopped sending her his signature Christmas coconut cakes, a $126 treat he famously gifts to friends in Hollywood.

Shields said: “I was on the list for a while,” recalling her “good 10-year run” of receiving the cake.

“It was from them and Suri, so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom. Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped.”

Cruise and Shields share a connection, as their daughters were born on the same day in the same hospital in 2006, and they even co-hosted a joint birthday party the following year.

Shields now says she has “no clue what happened” to end the cake deliveries. She joked: “Tom, I need to be back on the cake list. It’s the best cake.”
