One Reddit user recently posted their opinion of how they feel the game makes the spells truly feel unforgivable. In their post, they asked if there was anyone who does not use the Hogwarts Legacy spells, and was met with several responses that went both ways.
While there were numerous commenters who felt that the Dark Arts spells were simply not something they could comfortably have their characters learn and use, others felt quite the opposite and were amazed that anyone would not use them. They are, undoubtedly, the strongest and most effective spells in the game, but come at a cost, emotionally, for some.
Using Curses In Hogwarts Legacy Feels Wrong, According To Some Fans
But Many Players Also Think There Should Have Been More Consequence

Our Take: Sometimes You Want To Blast Enemies Into Oblivion In Hogwarts Legacy
But It’s Good That It’s A Choice You Don’t Have To Take

Really, it comes down to the fact that Hogwarts Legacy is a video game, and a single-player game at that. Players can, and should, be able to experience this fantastical world of witches and wizards however they please. There are many video games which happily supply players with even more gruesome means of defeating enemies, and sometimes it can be incredibly rewarding to cast a spell like Avada Kedavra against an evil foe.
That is because that is how I like to roleplay the game, with my characters falling more into the Hufflepuff mindset and wanting to do good, and I truly just enjoy leaning into the use of Chinese Chomping Cabbages for the silliness of it all. I wish that there was a morality system in the game, and perhaps there will be one in the sequel. However, players who wish to use the most effective spells at their disposal can use these unforgivable curses as much as they want, and enjoy being fully forgiven for them as far as Hogwarts Legacy NPCs are concerned.
