Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 6 Summary: Nicky’s Kidnapping and 8 Other Stories. Dexter has always been about murder and serial killers, but Original Sin episode 6 took it to a whole new level.

The second half of Dexter: Original Sin season 1 got off to a quick start, and there were quite a few developments in the newest episode. Dexter has always been about murder and serial killers, but Original Sin episode 6 stepped it up a notch. From Dexter (Patrick Gibson) identifying a new serial killer to Jimmy Powell’s killer taking a new victim and Dexter murdering his third victim, Original Sin was jam-packed with bloodshed. There was even a cliffhanger ending involving the severed arm of one of Dexter’s previous victims.

On top of all the violence in the episode, most of the cast of Original Sin had some type of drama to deal with. From Harry Morgan’s (Christian Slater) affair to Deb’s (Molly Brown) budding relationship with Gio (Isaac Gonzalez Rossi) and even Dexter’s love life, Original Sin had more than enough romantic tension to go around. As the Dexter prequel show continues to find its stride and up the stakes, some viewers might need a recap of all the developments that happened this week, and an idea of what they mean for Dexter’s future.

9Dexter Discovered A Serial Killer Preying On Homeless & Gay Victims

Maria LaGuerta Believed Dexter’s Theory About A Serial Killer Finding How He Likes To Kill

After messing up Levi Reed’s (Jeff Daniel Phillips) trial in Dexter: Original Sin episode 5, Harry Morgan started working with Maria LaGuerta (Christina Milian). That put him in the perfect spot to watch Dexter develop his theory that a new serial killer was preying on homeless and gay victims in Miami. Dexter connected a recent murder victim to two other people who were killed earlier in Original Sin – a homeless man and a sex worker – and concluded that the murderer was trying to figure out how he liked to kill people best.

Later in the episode, Maria told Harry that she supported Dexter’s theory. She thought that the killer was choosing his victims specifically because they were NHIs (No Humans Involved), and no one would miss them. Maria is likely right, too. If she hadn’t gotten into Miami Metro Homicide by criticizing their treatment of NHI victims, the department likely wouldn’t have ever connected the victims to one another. It seems that Dexter’s theory about a new serial killer could be right, but only the future of Original Sin will be able to reveal who that killer is.

8Captain Spencer’s Son, Nicky, Was Kidnapped By The Same Person Who Killed Jimmy Powell

Miami Metro Estimates They Have 10 More Days To Find Nicky Before He Dies

Nicky Spencer playing a video game in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Becca Spencer (Amanda Brooks) tied and gagged in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Nicky Spencer with a lamp in a cell in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6

In the opening scene of Original Sin episode 6, Captain Aaron Spencer’s (Patrick Dempsey) son, Nicky, was kidnapped. Spencer’s ex-wife, Becca (Amanda Brooks) was knocked unconscious by the assailant, and she couldn’t remember anything about him. Original Sin also confirmed that Nicky was kidnapped by the same person who kidnapped and killed Jimmy Powell. Like with Jimmy, the killer kept Nicky in a locked room and fed him prepackaged meals, and Nicky even saw bloodstains from Jimmy’s time in captivity.

Everyone at Miami Metro, except for Harry and Maria, immediately started investigating Nicky’s kidnapping. As Angel Batista (James Martinez) explained, the department only has about ten more days to find Nicky before he’s killed, based on the timeline the killer took with Jimmy Powell. On day four, the killer cut off Jimmy’s finger and sent it to Judge Powell, and on day 12, Jimmy’s dead body was found hanging from a freeway overpass. If that pattern holds, Captain Spencer will soon have to face a massive tragedy in Dexter: Original Sin, and it could even make room for Captain Matthews to enter the show.

7Laura Moser Got Tired Of Being The “Other Woman” & Tried To Stop Being Harry’s CI

Laura Asked Harry If He Would Put Doris’ Life In As Much Jeopardy As Hers

During Harry’s ongoing flashbacks to his time with Laura Moser (Brittany Allen), they reached a point where Laura got tired of being the “other woman.” After they had sex, Harry began to leave so he could be with his wife, Doris (Jasper Lewis), and he also suggested they stop their affair because Doris was pregnant. Laura also revealed that their affair had been going on for an entire year, and she wondered when Miami Metro would let her stop working as a criminal informant. Harry told Laura that she could go back to her old life after they put the drug kingpin Hector Estrada in prison.

Laura said Harry wouldn’t ask Doris to put herself in that much danger, and she didn’t believe he could keep her safe.

Unfortunately, Laura’s reservations about both her affair with Harry and her work as a criminal informant only got worse. Laura had a meeting with one of Estrada’s men in a shipping yard, and she was forced to watch him cut off another dealer’s finger. Harry tried to go rescue her, but Bobby Watt (Reno Wilson) stopped him. Later, Laura showed Harry the severed finger and said that if she went back in, she wouldn’t come out alive. Things came to a head when Laura said Harry wouldn’t ask Doris to put herself in that much danger, and she didn’t believe he could keep her safe.

6Dexter Had A Double Date With Sofia, Deb, & Gio

Dexter Started Out Awkward, But Following Levi Reed’s Example Led To Him Losing His Virginity

Original Sin episode 6 wasn’t all murders and kidnappings, however. Debra Morgan convinced Dexter to go on a double date with her, Sofia (Raquel Justice), and Gio. Despite Deb asking Dexter to not be himself under any circumstances, Dexter was very strange at the beginning of the date. He tried to sit next to Deb instead of Sofia, he ordered a huge amount of food and made everyone wait for him to finish, and he described one of his recent crime scenes in excessive detail. It’s safe to say the date went horribly for everyone involved.

That is, until Dexter started using the tricks he had picked up while stalking Levi Reed. As the group started playing darts, Dexter offered to show Sofia how to throw, he told Gio a joke, and he even put his arm around Sofia. Dexter was blending in so well that when he went to the bathroom, Sofia followed him in and gave him oral sex. Afterwards, the entire group went to Tiffany’s house, Dexter hotwired her car, and Deb and Gio ran away from the police. Then, Sofia gave Dexter a kiss after he dropped her off at home and told him to call her.

5Doris Morgan Gave Birth To Debra & Told Harry She Knew About His Affair

While Laura was confronting Harry and trying to get out of being a criminal informant, Doris started giving birth to Deb. Harry ran to the hospital to be by his wife, and when he arrived, Deb had already been born. As he picked up his daughter for the first time, Doris told Harry that she knew he had been having an affair for a long time. Doris wasn’t mad about his infidelity, however, but she did demand that Harry end his relationship with Laura so that he could focus on being a father to Deb.

Doris’ demand that Harry stop seeing Laura could cause some major problems and drama in the future of Original SinLaura is already hesitant about being Harry’s CI and angry about being the “other woman,” and the news that Harry is ending their affair may ruin both their personal and professional relationshipsOriginal Sin is also quickly approaching the moment when Laura is set to die, so it’s possible that her last interaction with Harry will be an extremely negative one. While that will add a new layer of tragedy to their story, it could also help explain why Harry adopted Dexter in the first place.

4Dexter Saw Clark Sanders At A Gay Bar

Dexter Likely Doesn’t Care About Clark’s Sexuality, But Clark Will Probably Worry How He’ll React

Dexter (Patrick Gibson) and Clark Sanders (Aaron Jennings) in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Clark Sanders (Aaron Jennings) outside a gay bar in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) looking surprised in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6

Dexter had been stalking Levi Reed throughout Original Sin episode 6, but when he finally moved in to abduct him, he got sidetracked. Dexter bumped into Clark Sanders (Aaron Jennings) outside a gay nightclub, and the two had an awkward exchange. Earlier in the episode, Clark had told Dexter he was going to show one of his friends around town, and it turns out he was hiding the fact that he’s gay. While Dexter probably doesn’t care about Clark being gay, it could cause some friction in the future, as Clark hid his sexuality for a reason.

While Dexter probably doesn’t care about Clark being gay, it could cause some friction in the future, as Clark hid his sexuality for a reason.

The revelation that Clark is gay also helps explain some of his story so far. When he and Dexter were investigating the murder of the gay sex worker in Original Sin episode 4, Clark seemed personally invested in the case and the possibility that he was targeted because of his sexuality. The fact that Dexter was willing to help him move the body despite the stigma around HIV/AIDS also helps explain why Clark opened up to him so quickly and became his first friend at Miami Metro.

3Levi Reed Officially Made Dexter A Serial Killer

The FBI Requires Three Murders For Someone To Be A Serial Killer & Levi Reed Was Dexter’s Third Victim

After his run-in with Clark, Dexter went back to hunting Levi Reed. He was able to kidnap Reed without a hitch, and Dexter soon had him on a kill table in the home of one of the families he murdered. Dexter treated the entire affair with an air of reverence. Levi Reed was Dexter’s third kill, as Mad-Dog (Joe Pantoliano) was struck by a car. According to the FBI’s definition, the third kill was the one that made Dexter an official serial killer, so he considered Levi Reed very important. He even took the time to print out photos of Reed’s victims, a habit he kept well into the original show.

Levi Reed was also a special victim for Dexter for another reason. While he was on the kill table, Dexter began interrogating Reed about his victims and why he felt the need to kill innocent people and children. Reed explained that he simply needed to do it and enjoyed the way it felt to kill people, and he argued that Dexter was no different. While Dexter said that the Code of Harry kept him from killing innocent people, he still wondered if that was the only thing that kept him from being a true monster like Reed.

2Miami Metro Thinks Rafael Campos Had Nicky Spencer Kidnapped

It’s Too Soon To Tell Whether Campos Really Did Kill Jimmy Powell Or If Miami Metro Has A Red Herring

Captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey) in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Rafael Campos in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Several detectives in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey) looks distraught as Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) pours bourbon in a mug in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6

After days of investigating Nicky Spencer’s kidnapping, the detectives of Miami Metro finally came up with a theory about who was responsible. While Tanya Martin (Sarah Michelle Gellar) wasn’t able to find any forensic evidence, the detectives believed that a cartel boss named Rafael Campos may have orchestrated both Nicky and Jimmy’s abductions. Bobby explained that Captain Spencer had arrested Campos and Judge Powell threw the book at him, so he may be ordering his men to abduct their children from prison. Campos’ men are also known for being violent and unpredictable, which could explain why there was no ransom note.

It’s currently too early to tell if Rafael Campos really is the person who killed Jimmy Powell. It’s possible that Bobby and Angel are on the right trail, but Miami Metro also already doubted that the cartel was behind the kidnappings in the first place. It seems possible that whoever abducted Jimmy and Nicky was acting alone, and is a completely independent serial killer. In any case, Nicky’s disappearance weighed heavily on Captain Spencer. He lashed out at several people, and the only thing that could calm him down was Harry sharing a drink with him and telling him that fathers always worry about their children.

1The Police Found Handsome Tony’s Arm In The Everglades Right As Dexter Arrived To Dump Levi Reed’s Body

Original Sin Left Dexter With A Corpse In His Trunk & Cops At His Window

Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) loads Levi Reed's body into his truck in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson) being interrogated by a police officer in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6 Handsome Tony's severed hand in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 6

At the end of Original Sin episode 6, Dexter ran into quite a bit of trouble. With Levi Reed’s dead body in the bed of his truck, Dexter headed out to the Everglades to feed the corpse to the alligators there. When he arrived, however, the police stopped his truck and informed him it was an active crime scene. The police found the severed arm of Handsome Tony, Dexter’s second kill, which hadn’t been completely eaten by alligators. The fact that Tony’s ring is still on his finger means that his arm will soon be identified, and Dexter could soon become a murder suspect.

This close of a call may be enough for Harry to forbid Dexter from killing anymore.

Original Sin episode 6’s cliffhanger ending is even worse than that, though. Dexter doesn’t have a reason to be in a remote part of the Everglades in the middle of the night. If he can’t think of a valid excuse quickly, the police might search his truck and find Levi Reed’s body. Even if they don’t search his truck, though, Harry will almost certainly find out that Dexter’s dumping ground isn’t as foolproof as he claimed. This close of a call may be enough for Harry to forbid Dexter from killing anymore. No matter what happens, Dexter: Original Sin has built up a very suspenseful next episode.
