Hogwarts Legacy is a game packed full of mysteries, and now it appears the game’s final puzzle has been solved by eagle-eyed fans.

Harry Potter fans everywhere have fond memories of their time with Hogwarts Legacy. While the open world is perhaps a bit too big for its own good, with quite a lot of empty space, Hogwarts Castle itself has provided an endless stream of mysteries for players to chase down.

One mystery that has been bugging players for ages is a phoenix carved into a wall. It’s not exactly hidden, and actually looks like it should be important. Except it can’t actually be interacted with in any way.

As it turns out, the mysterious phoenix does have a purpose – just not a practical one.

The stone carving was the topic of discussion in an old Reddit thread by AdoraLovegood, who realised the phoenix is “on the wall in the same spot where Dumbledore’s office was in the older games.”

They even went so far as to find screenshots from one of the older games from the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 compared to Hogwarts Legacy show the image in the exact same spot. A fun nod to the past, if nothing else.

“Oh, is THAT what that means!!” one fan wrote. “I thought it was another secret or puzzle, I’ve been trying to figure it out for ages.”

Another added: “Wow. That is really cool. No idea bc I didn’t play the older games. Neat how many little Easter eggs there are in this game.”

“Stuff like that is what shows the amount of love put into crafting the Castle and the grounds,” a third enthused.

With Hogwarts Legacy now getting a ton of new mods, and rumours of a hefty official expansion, it could be that this final mystery isn’t quite as final as we thought.
