The first Unofficial Patch for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has launched, continuing a tradition that started with the original Oblivion game in 2005. The patch for the game that was released 11 years ago brought hundreds of much-needed fixes to the game, ironing out bugs related to the scripting, quests, NPCs, items, dialogue, and other areas of the game that needed a touchup. The same team is now back to do the same for the newly released Oblivion Remaster.

The Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch is now available to download from Nexus Mods, as reported by DSO Gaming. The patch doesn’t address too many issues yet, instead opening up a dedicated bug reporting site where players can list their issues for the team to resolve as they update the mod. In spite of the mod being in its infancy, fans can expect the same level of care and attention from the Unofficial Mod team. Fans have placed their faith in the team, with the patch already amassing over 32,000 downloads.

Large games like Oblivion are bound to have several issues and bugs, which developers like Bethesda then work to iron out and fix throughout the game’s lifespan. Due to the huge size of some game worlds, though, not every bug is deemed important or widespread enough to be fixed. That’s where the Unofficial Patch team comes in.

The goal of the mod, as stated in its description, is to “eventually fix every bug with Oblivion Remastered and its DLCs not officially resolved by the developers. Of course, the team is limited by what it can do through community-created tools, but the developers hope to do the same for the new title as they did for the old one, “in one easy-to-install package.

There are already over two dozen bugs filed in the dedicated reporting site, which fans can expect to see patched up as the mod’s creators continue their work on it. Fans are also encouraged to submit their bug reports to Bethesda, so players on any console can benefit if the bug receives an official fix.

Oblivion Remastered Has No Mod Support On Launch

The Modding Community Remains Undeterred

Oblivion Remastered was launched without official mod support, despite Bethesda’s historically friendly relationship with modders. This has done nothing to prevent the creation of mods, many of which address issues that players have with the game that Bethesda might have no plans of updating, like making quest rewards scale with the player’s level, or rebinding the key used to confirm from the awkward Enter key to Space or E.

It’s possible that Bethesda will add mod support later down the line. In fact, the company has already shown its good faith and positive attitude toward modders by sending out free keys to the game to modders working on the Skyblivion mod, which recreates the original Oblivion in the Skyrim engine. Players can certainly count on Bethesda keeping up to date on the many issues and bugs plaguing The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered. But now, thanks to the Unofficial Patch team, fans have a backup that’s sure to patch up any issues that the company misses.
