Assassin’s Creed Shadows Hides a Clever Skyrim Nod But You’ll Have to Grind to Find It

Ubisoft has put a lot of thought and detail into Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It’s clear if you take a look at all the easter eggs in the game.

Assassin's Creed Shadows and Skyrim

Easter eggs are common in video games; almost every developer takes the time to add a nod here and there to games that inspired them or the game itself. Ubisoft has done the same in Assassin’s Creed Shadows with clever easter eggs for Dark SoulsNaruto, and even the legendary Skyrim.

Much like the many NPCs in Skyrim, you can give the enemies in AC Shadows a taste of the adventurer life, or rather, its ending, by shooting them with an arrow to the knee. It’s also an achievement, so if you’re a completionist, you’ll be getting this at some point.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn’t shy away from having a Skyrim reference

The Adventurer trophy/achievement is a clear nod to the legendary “arrow to the knee” meme that originated from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While Assassin’s Creed Valhalla featured a cheeky line referencing it, Shadows goes a step further. To unlock this achievement, you’ll have to shoot an enemy directly in the knee with a bow.

To get this achievement, you will first need to finish the first act and unlock Yasuke, one of the game’s two protagonists. Unlike Naoe, who specializes in stealth, Yasuke is all about brute strength, and he’s the only character who can use the bow required for the trophy.

Once you unlock Yasuke, the next step is to get a bow, but that’s easier said than done. Bows can be purchased from gear vendors scattered across the map, but you can also get one from quest rewards or random loot drops. Depending on your progression and inventory, it may take a bit of grinding to get one.

But then you need to hit the shot. The game won’t accept just any arrow shot, it needs to hit right in the knee. Once that sweet shot lands, you’ll get the Adventurer trophy and a solid laugh if you’re familiar with Skyrim’s legacy. It’s a small moment that feels big if you’re someone who appreciates gaming history.

After all, Skyrim is one of the most influential games ever

Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t the first game to reference Skyrim, and it won’t be the last. Stuff like this is a sign of how Bethesda’s game has gone from being just a game to becoming a big part of gaming history. Released back in 2011, Skyrim set the standard for open-world RPGs, and games have been chasing after it ever since.

Skyrim set a new benchmark for open-world RPGs with its immersive world, non-linear gameplay, and freedom to explore at your own pace. Its structure became the template for many modern RPGs, including The Witcher 3Dragon Age: Inquisition, and so many others.

If you’re craving some Bethesda goodness, there’s a Remaster for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion that might come out soon. The Elder Scrolls 6 is also still in development, but there’s really no news about that particular project.
