Elon Musk’s never ending love for Path of Exile 2 has promted him to play it airborne, and claiming it to be playable even in Mars.

It’s not just Path of Exile 2 that has made Musk famous. The multibillionaire disclosed earlier in 2024 that he was 19th on the global leaderboard for Diablo 4, and it appears that some of those abilities carried over to the most recent RPG from Grinding Gear.

Musk was removed from Path of Exile 2 for completing too many tasks in a short period of time. He even says the game’s anti-cheating software thought he was using a macro or other similar cheat because he was just too skilled at it. Now, yet again he comes to headlines with the newly released RPG as he claims you can even play it from Mars.
You can play Path of Exile 2 from Mars, but there’s a catch

After being kicked out from the game a few days ago, Elon Musk again logged in to Path of Exile 2 on December 17th, but this time he was using Starlink to play from an airplane, something he couldn’t help but brag about to his 207 million followers on Twitter (oh sorry, X).

Starlink is so good that you can play real-time video games while airborne! pic.twitter.com/DEpRJYfU6y

Musk also shared a 2-minute-long gameplay clip as well, which shows the game ran flawlessly despite being played in the air. Not only PoE 2, Musk claimed you could play other real-time video games while airborne.
This made people wonder what Starlink’s potential boundaries might be and what the future of gaming might hold if Musk succeeds in realizing his goal of colonizing Mars. But when it comes to gaming on the red planet, Musk doesn’t want people to hold their breath.
You can definitely game on Mars, but speed of light means no real-time gaming between Earth and Mars.
Distance varies from ~4 to ~20 light-minutes.

A fan speculated about gaming on Mars in response to Elon’s PoE 2 video, stating that Starlink might “connect the world and then beyond.” Regretfully, the owner of X quickly put an end to this idea and outlined its main problems. This reply from Musk prompted other fans to throw some hilarious jokes like someone said the ping would be insanely high, or someone suggested running an ethernet cable between two planets.

Musk posted a screenshot of his Path of Exile 2 screen on Twitter, displaying a notification stating that he had been disconnected for completing too many tasks too quickly. Games frequently use actions per minute to identify cheating, but Musk clarified that he wasn’t utilizing a macro.

He said that developers will probably alter the aggressive clicks-per-second cap in the future in response to another user. It’s reasonable to assume that this feature might alter as developers patch the game in the future, given how many technical problems Path of Exile 2 has had since its release.
Musk was supported by some users, one of whom brought up the fact that the game offers players a lot of active skills but penalizes them for using them too frequently. How the wealthiest man in the world could find the time to play so many games, let alone become proficient enough to be kicked for actions per minute, impressed others more.
Musk has established himself as a passionate gamer despite leading multiple large corporations. In addition to his exploits in Diablo and Path of Exile, he has hinted at starting an AI game studio and has even floated the idea of purchasing Hasbro.
