Netflix’s romance series, created by Chris Van Dusen, is based on Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books of the same name. It follows the Bridgerton family in London during the Regency era, with each season following the love story of one sibling. Bridgerton season 2 revolves around Anthony’s romance with Kate Sharma, and even though they are married now, the couple still have a role to play in the show.

After his character marries Simone Ashley’s at the end of Bridgerton season 2, Bailey returns in season 3 (alongside Ashley as Kate, of course). However, the fan-favorite couple doesn’t appear as much as some would have liked in the episodes. Instead, Anthony and Kate are regulated to background characters. Unfortunately, it seems as if the same thing might happen in Bridgerton season 4.

During an interview with Vogue in December 2024, Jonathan Bailey revealed that he has already finished filming his Bridgerton season 4 scenes. Given that the cast and crew began production on the new season in September 2024 and will reportedly finish by the spring of 2025, Bailey’s news is worrisome. A few months remain before Bridgerton season 4 is supposed to wrap filming altogether, but Bailey is already done. Consequently, the actor’s update suggests that his character doesn’t have a big role in the upcoming episodes of the Netflix historical romance series.

Bailey’s career is on the rise in 2024. Of course, he first gained wide recognition with his role as Anthony in Bridgerton on Netflix, which debuted in 2020. However, Bailey’s recent roles in the Showtime miniseries Fellow Travelers and the widely popular and critically acclaimed musical film Wicked have completely thrust the actor into the spotlight.

If Anthony truly has a reduced role in Bridgerton season 4, similar to his limited screen time in season 3, that would be quite disappointing.

In 2025, Bailey is set to star in the next Jurassic Park movie and reprise his role as Fiyero in Wicked: For Good. So, to say he is busy is an understatement. Bailey’s schedule might have played a factor in him wrapping Bridgerton season 4 alarmingly early — whether that means they decided to shoot all of Anthony’s scenes right away to accommodate Bailey or Anthony simply has a reduced role and the actor didn’t have many scenes to film.

If Anthony truly has a reduced role in Bridgerton season 4, similar to his limited screen time in season 3, that would be quite disappointing. He and Kate and the Viscount and Viscountess of the Bridgerton household. They are supposed to be running it by now, but Anthony and Kate have been pushed to the background (despite their importance to the Bridgerton family and the TV series).

Anthony and Kate’s reduced roles in Bridgerton season 3 were already frustrating. So, one would hope that the couple would return from their trip to India (with their newborn baby) by the time season 4 premieres and have a more significant presence in the episodes. Sadly, that likely won’t be the case, based on Bailey’s Bridgerton filming update.
