Disney Won’t Admit This: The Definitive Proof That Daredevil: Born Again Is Season 4 of Canceled Netflix Masterpiece

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again might wear the reboot mask, but it’s clearly got the soul of Netflix’s long-lost Season 4 under the hood.

The Man Without Fear has returned and it looks like he is stronger than ever. Marvel Studios recently dropped the trailer for Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: Born Again and we couldn’t be more excited. The trailer already has about 21 million views at the time of writing this and one look at the comment section proves that fans are seated for Matt Murdock’s return to crime-fighting. Marvel’s going all in, promising a fresh take on the story while staying true to the gritty, no-nonsense vibe we loved over at Netflix.

From Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal to Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, our favorite actors are reuniting with Charlie Cox on the screen to make the ride even more enjoyable. But the question is, does Daredevil: Born Again mark new beginnings or is it really just another season of Netflix’s Daredevil in disguise?

Is Daredevil: Born Again season 4 of Netflix’s Daredevil?

From the return of the OG talent to keeping up with the similar gritty tone we have seen before, Daredevil: Born Again looks as if the producers sat down and decided to give the Netflix original another go. But is that really the case? Well, some plotlines may argue so.

For starters, the trailer begins with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) sitting across each other at a diner and it’s clear that the latter knows the former’s secret identity. Rewinding to Daredevil, Wilson aka Kingpin learns about him being Daredevil in season 3 so naturally, it seems as if Born Again is a continuation of the cancelled series.

Adding to that, Born Again welcomes the iconic trio – Matt, Karen (Deborah Ann Woll), and Foggy (Elden Henson) – back with open arms after a lot of speculations revolving around their return. Cox once stated that Henson was just supposed to have a cameo in the first episode of the upcoming series to give closure to the old fans (via Collider). It looks like the writers are completely embracing the past.

During a moment in the trailer, Matt opens the door to a lineup of his old masks, including two red ones from Daredevil.

Wilson Fisk is the mayor of New York

After Wilson admits that Matt has “come up in the world” since they last met, the vigilante returns the compliment to the man sitting in front of him. It is revealed that Kingpin is now the mayor of New York, picking up from the events of Echo and Hawkeye.

In Daredevil season 3 though, we last saw Fisk getting imprisoned. Bullseye actor Wilson Bethel confirmed a time jump between the events of the Netflix series and Born Again which would explain how Fisk went from being an inmate to the literal mayor.

At Fan Expo San Francisco last year, Bethel stated (via Collider),

So there’s kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired. The show doesn’t pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime.

Now, while Born Again may not truly be season 4, it sure has some moments that make us believe so. However, the problem is that if we go in expecting it to be exactly like the OG, we may be in for some major disappointment.

Daredevil: Born Again will be released on Disney+ on March 04. Meanwhile, Daredevil is available to watch on Netflix.
