It’s only temporary … we think

Captain America: Brave New World has, unfortunately, failed to dazzle – securing a score of 52%, at the time of writing, over on Rotten Tomatoes.

All’s not lost though, Marvel fans. Thunderbolts* is also on the way this year, and I have a sneaky feeling that this one’s going to be good.

Okay, well, that’s what I’m hoping for. The film’s first trailer cooked but then again, so did Brave New World’s.

We know that the makeshift team of anti-heroes will find themselves facing off against Sentry / The Void, a pretty formidable figure.

One mystery that has perplexed us since the project’s reveal is exactly is why both the film and team are titled Thunderbolts* with an asterisk, but an answer may seemingly have just come to light.

As reported by CBR, the latest poster for the film may hold the reasoning we’ve been seeking.

Thus far in the film’s life cycle, the asterisk hasn’t been accompanied by any sort of adjoining explanation.

That’s changed in the latest poster though with the asterisk linking to a line in the poster’s fine print which reads, “The Avengers are not available.”

It certainly looks then as if the Thunderbolts are set to temporarily replace the Avengers as the MCU’s heroes on call.

That being said, we know for definite that the Avengers will be back before long.

The rather obvious clue there is that Avengers: Doomsday is set to release next year followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Will the Thunderbolts support the Avengers? Will they join their ranks? I still have so many questions.

Of course, there is the possibility that this is simply a tongue-in-cheek joke for Thunderbolts*’s latest poster, and there may be another reason in the film as to why the asterisk is being used.

The most obvious reason is that they’ll adopt another name.

Honestly, we’re totally in the dark and I’m talking myself around in circles. Answers will arrive when Thunderbolts* releases on 2 May.
