Pedro Pascal Stands Tall for Rachel Zegler, Hailing Her an ‘Icon’ Amid Snow White’s Explosive Backlash Storm—Discover Why It’s Got Everyone Talking Below!

Pedro-Pascal-Calls-Rachel-Zegler-an-Icon-as-He-Shows-Support-Amid-Snow-White-Backlash Even before Disney’s newest film, the live-action Snow White, came out in theaters, it was plagued with criticism. Now, Pedro Pascal is the latest person to join the conversation.

Snow White‘s controversies started with Rachel Zegler’s casting. The Latina actress was not exactly what people had in mind for a live version of Snow White, who is described to be fair-skinned. She later got backlash for some of her remarks about the 1937 original animated film, and she’s now blamed for the film’s box office shortcomings, and Pedro Pascal has just shown his support for Zegler on his Instagram.

The Last of Us actor has been very outspoken about his political views and often shows that through his social media accounts. In the latest instance, Pascal decided to join the conversation about Zegler. On Mar. 30, Pascal shared a photo of the West Side Story actress on his Instagram Stories, tagging her and adding, “#icon” as his description.

This comes in the aftermath of Variety’s recent article about Zegler, who claimed her political views and her support for Palestine had led to the backlash, which could be debated. Melissa Barrera, who many say was unfairly fired from the Scream franchise reboot for her support of Palestine, has recently shown her support for Zegler, too, calling Variety’s article a “hit piece.”

However, not everyone had kind words to say about Zegler. Following the release of the Variety piece, which revealed critically acclaimed producer Marc Platt went to New York to talk Zegler out of deleting a post of support for Palestine, Platt’s son, Jonah, slammed Zegler in a now-deleted post.

The 38-year-old actor and producer blasted Zegler for the film’s box office failures. He replied to a comment noting his dad’s “creepy” behavior and noted Marc Platt “had to leave his faly to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie.”

The move was not about recent events but about her support for Palestine after the first trailer’s release in 2024. “This is called adult responsibility and accountability,” Jonah continued. “Her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office. Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.”

He also accused her of “narcissism” and “immature desires” that put the cast and crew at risk. Jonah didn’t point out how often Gal Gadot has spoken in support of Israel. Disney reportedly hired extra security for the Wonder Woman star after receiving death threats. Marc Platt is Jewish, and his wife, Julie Platt, is the chair of the Jewish Federations of North America, which has raised hundreds of millions for Israel since the war in Gaza started in 2023.

Snow White Is Bound to Become a Box Office Flop

The live-action Snow White joins a series of recent live-action films based on beloved animations, including 2015’s Cinderella, 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, and 2023’s The Little Mermaid, among others. The film reportedly had a budget of $209 million, with rumors that the real price tag sits around $350 million. For the film to be considered a success, it would need to earn between $500 million if the first figure is correct, and close to $700 million if the second is real.

So far, Snow White has grossed $143.1 million in its first two weekends but saw a steep decline in its second week, losing the top spot to Jason Statham’s A Working Man. In the U.S., Snow White grossed $66.3 million per the last update after being review-bombed, with the film doing far better on international markets. The movie has a “rotten” score of 41% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a more encouraging one of 74% from the audience from over 1k verified reviews.

Snow White is playing in theaters.
