Fallout fans think Fallout 5 will be significantly underwhelming, and they’re blaming Starfield’s relative failure for it.

Why Fallout 5 is even on any of our minds is beyond me, as unless Xbox decides to pull rank and force Bethesda to hand the IP over to another studio, we’re not getting a new Fallout game for quite a while.

Regardless, it hasn’t stopped speculation on what the next Fallout game will be like.

After all, The Elder Scrolls series doesn’t appeal to everyone and Starfield left a bad taste in almost everybody’s mouth.

In fact, it’s Starfield specifically that has fans worried Fallout 5 won’t be the critically-acclaimed success they’re hoping it will be.

“Starfield has ruined my faith in Bethesda … After playing Starfield, I’m worried Fallout 5 will be worse,” read one critique of the game in a since-deleted Reddit thread.

They argued that the writing in Starfield was the weakest part of the game, and with Fallout 76 having little to no story at all, they’re worried the world-building and narrative are being thrown to the wayside.

Now whether that’s going to be the case for Fallout 5 is unknown, and honestly unlikely since we’ve seen what a good Fallout narrative can look like in previous games and the live-action TV series.

Nevertheless some fans agreed, with one saying that they don’t think it’ll be bad, but “aggressively mediocre” instead.

“I agree with everything you said. I’d like to add that the dialogue was horribly written, and not only are the companions bland – they’re practically unlikable,” added another Starfield player.

Personally, I think we have nothing to worry about, but the true test will be The Elder Scrolls VI, as if that game is solid, I don’t think there’ll be any reason to worry about Fallout 5.
