DC Studios announced some changes to their release plans in the foreseeable future. A delay was tacked onto The Batman production and release dates.

The Batman movie’s release date was once again pushed back.

The film, starring Robert Pattinson, is slated for production in third quarter of 2025 and was originally intended for a 2026 release. Instead, the DC Studios film was pushed to Oct. 1, 2027. The original movie’s cinematic release in 2022 brought loads of fanfare as fans demanded a sequel. Now, Matt Reeves is attempting to live up to the hype.

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn wrote on Threads: “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”

Stealing The Batman’s spot in the Warner Bros. lineup is an unnamed Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise project. The film plans to follow a powerful man who goes on a crazed mission in an attempt to prove his worth as humanity’s savior. However, he’s working against the clock of a great disaster which could destroy the world. Iñárritu will direct the production as the writer. He crafted the script with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone. As for production, Mary Parent will join the team.

Tom will be joined by Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Riz Ahmed in the cast.

Robert Pattinson is facing another switch up in his creative timeline. His project with Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 will release sooner than expected with a new date of March 7, 2025. Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners will hit on April 18, 2025

Some fans were frustrated with the change, wishing it was coming to theaters sooner. One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Robert Pattinson will be 40 years old when this movie comes out, only 12 – 18 months younger than Ben Affleck when he played a retired Batman in Batman V Superman.”

Others were just happy to see the studio and writers taking care with their creative decisions. A fan argued: “People saying they want the film now are the same people that will complain and call it ‘half-assed’ or ‘rushed.'”
