Tight end Travis Kelce paid homage to former star Tony Gonzalez after breaking the Chiefs’ record for career touchdown receptions, but the NFL didn’t approve.

Kelce was fined for doing Gonzalez’s signature celebration by dunking the ball over the goalpost during the Chiefs’ win at Pittsburgh on Christmas Day.

That earned Kelce a fine from the NFL, but Gonzalez said he’d pay that money. Kelce, however, had a different idea.

On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, NBA star LeBron James talked about which football players he might have emulated had he chosen to play in the NFL.

James mentioned Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson and Gonzalez.

“Tony Gonzalez with him and his size, and obviously he played basketball as well,” James said. “I used to love his celebration when he used to dunk on the goalpost, too.

“Oh, actually, I saw you do it too. I know the NFL had the nerve to fine you for that. I’m like, come on, man, relax.”

Kelce revealed he didn’t have Gonzalez pay that fine. Instead, that money went to Kelce’s “Eighty-Seven & Running” foundation.

“It was a fine well worth it,” Kelce said. “Actually, Tony G helped me out with that one. But instead of throwing any money to me, I just told him to send it to the foundation. Shout out to Tony G.”
