With a record of 6-8 and on the cusp of falling out of playoff contention, it is safe to say that the Miami Dolphins haven’t had the season for which they’d hoped.
Part of that is owed to the absence of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed four games earlier this year with a concussion. Miami went 1-3 in those contests.
As an extension of that factor, that the Dolphins didn’t have a viable backup QB on the roster capable of taking advantage of all of their downfield speed was a critical error.
However, producer and analyst Billy Gill of “The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz” went a step further on the Monday, Dec. 16 edition of the podcast when he blamed Tyreek Hill for the team’s struggles, claiming the star wide receiver might be “washed.”
“Because Tua, every time he’s touching the ball, is throwing interceptions, which is actually Tyreek Hill’s fault — if you believe what it is the Dolphins fans say because no one wants to blame Tua for anything, which I’m starting to catch onto,” Gill said. “But you couldn’t blame him yesterday. That was Tyreek Hill’s fault. I mean, two hands on the ball. If one hand is on the ball, you have to make the catch. [If you have] two hands on the ball, how do you have someone take it away?”
And Gill didn’t stop there.
“Tyreek Hill … might be washed,” he continued. “Maybe they needed to trade him at the deadline and get anything you possibly can for him, because he is not looking good right now.”
Hill hasn’t produced fewer than 1,200 yards in any of his last four campaigns and led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13) last season. He has also caught at least 111 passes in each of the previous three years.
However, through 14 games in 2024, Hill has tallied 67 receptions for 805 yards and 5 scores. He is playing this season, his ninth in the league, at 30 years of age.
