Clair Obscur’s devs provided an update on the sales progress of Expedition 33 via the game’s Bluesky account, revealing its French RPG has sold 3.3 million copies. Odds are the team has been waiting for the game to hit that milestone, especially after it sold two million copies in less than two weeks.
The Clair team probably didn’t imagine the game would hit 3.3 million copies sold on a day quite as perfect as this one, though. “Thirty-three days ago, we released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Since then, we’ve sold 3.3 million copies,” the team revealed in its Bluesky post. That’s right, Expedition 33 hit 3.3 million copies sold on the 33rd day after its release.
3.3 Million Copies In 33 Days
Even If It Didn’t Really Happen Today, That’s Still Very Impressive
It’s so good that it almost sounds made up, something Sandfall acknowledges in the post. It adds that the milestone is another surreal moment for them that the support for Clair Obscur has made real. As for whether the reveal is real, I like to think it is. Sure, Clair might have hit 3.3 million a few days ago and Sandfall saved the announcement for today to make it even more perfect, but whether that’s the case or not, it’s still an incredible achievement.

Again, even though the Sandfall team includes devs that have a lot of prior experience, most of them at Ubisoft, this is the studio’s first release. No one could have imagined Clair Obscur performing this well, let alone surpassing three million copies sold in its first month. The post specifically says sold too, which means it isn’t accounting for people playing through Game Pass. Accounting for Game Pass users, I’d say that number is closer to five million, and that’s probably a conservative estimate.
Even though it has only been a little more than a month since the launch of Expedition 33, there will already be some people wondering what’s next. There’s good news on that front. Even though they were very careful not to hint at exactly what Sandfall’s next project will be, the studio’s COO revealed they already have ideas for a Clair Obscur follow-up.
