That was to be expected, as season 4 is not only the show’s final, but other characters needed to step in for the absent Man of Steel. Hoechlin has become one of the best live-action Superman actors in my eyes, and the series’ adaptation of DC Comics’ “The Death of Superman” hit extremely hard. As Superman & Lois is all about the Kent family, seeing how Clark’s death impacted his loved ones made the tragic story even more heartbreaking. However, with a few new twists, Superman & Lois is moving forward from it.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Brought Clark Back From The Dead So Quickly
The Man Of Steel’s Death Lasted A Few Episodes

The death of Hoechlin’s Superman was a major moment. I knew that it was coming since Doomsday entered the scene in Superman & Lois season 3. However, seeing the events unfold and Clark dying while fighting Lex Luthor’s pet monster was extremely sad. Superman & Lois made sure that his death was felt, showing how the Kents and those close to him mourned Clark. I liked that the death had a real impact on the series and made characters like Jordan, Jonathan, John Henry, and more step up to help in Clark’s absence.
However, that absence is already over. Superman & Lois season 4, episode 3’s ending saw the Man of Steel come back to life. The Man of Steel opened his eyes after having received General Sam Lane’s heart, which had been given a serum with Kal-El’s blood. There is no denying that the DC series brought Clark Kent back from the dead rather quickly. Superman & Lois season 4 started with the death of the Man of Steel at the end of episode 1, and just three episodes later, Superman is back in action by episode 4.
Why Superman & Lois Season 4 Needed To Bring Clark Back So Quickly
There Was No Time To Waste

While I think that Clark’s absence could have been explored more, I understand why the show had to bring him back as fast as it did. After all, Superman & Lois season 4 is the series’ final entry. Adding to that, it received a shorter order, with just 10 episodes this time around. As such, there is a lot yet to be done in order to properly wrap up the show in a way that feels epic and satisfying for those who have stuck around with Superman & Lois over four seasons.
The later he was brought back from the dead, the less Superman would appear in the short final season of a show that truthfully depends on him.
Yes, Superman & Lois, as its name states, is not only about the Man of Steel. I very much like that aspect of the show, as seeing a veteran version of the hero raising a family in live-action put a fresh spin on the character and made the show unique. However, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman could not have been absent any longer. The later he was brought back from the dead, the less Superman would appear in the short final season of a show that truthfully depends on him. With Lex Luthor and Doomsday on the loose, Superman needed to return.
Superman & Lois Still Made Clark’s Death Count
The Man Of Steel’s Death Continues To Affect Clark

Despite his absence not lasting long, Superman’s death was still very important for the show. Not only did it make other characters step up, but it led to one of Superman & Lois season 4’s biggest twists. General Sam Lane sacrificed himself to give Clark a viable heart to replace his. Ever since that reveal was made, I wondered if having a human heart, even if it had Kryptonian blood in it, would change Superman in any way. Well, it did not take long for the DC series to answer my question.

Superman & Lois season 4, episode 4, makes it clear that Clark might never be the same. Superman falling from the sky after putting too much effort into racing Jonathan, Clark feeling the effects of alcohol, and more show that Lane’s heart does not offer Superman the same conditions he had prior to his death. That could still change, as Clark mentions that his mother said that there would be an adjustment period. Superman & Lois also had Clark hide to regain his strength before Luthor knew he was alive. These events show the lingering impact of Superman’s death.
