Rachel Brosnahan proved she is perfect for Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman with one activity that helped her prepare for the role.

Actress Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman movie directed by James Gunn. Fans recently got their first look at the style and tone Gunn is aiming for with his take on the iconic superhero and his supporting cast of characters including the feisty and spunky journalist Brosnahan is portraying in the movie.

During an interview, Brosnahan talked about her role in the movie and the challenges of playing an investigative journalist who is also a love interest to David Corenswet’s titular character. Brosnahan admitted to going to the extreme lengths of stalking to get into character which is perfectly on-brand for Lois Lane. Here is what she had to say about playing the iconic comic book character.

Rachel Brosnahan rose to prominence with her multiple Golden Globe-winning role in the comedy-drama series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In June 2023, Brosnahan was cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming DCU film then known as Superman: Legacy.

In January 2024, Brosnahan talked about playing the Daily Planet journalist in the upcoming film during a chat with Entertainment Tonight. The actress revealed that she was busy preparing for the part and even stalked some of her journalist friends to understand the finer details of her character.

I’m stalking my journalist friends right now. I’m just trying to understand a little bit more deeply kind of how that mindset works.

Brosnahan made the above statement regarding her preparation for the role of Lois Lane.

Given that she is set to play an investigative journalist, stalking comes with territory and confirms that the actress is on the right path when researching for the character. Moreover, Brosnahan admitted to being a fan of the Christopher Reeve movies which is a bonus.

Fans got their first glimpse at Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and David Corenswet’s Clark Kent / Superman in the teaser trailer for the movie that was recently released. The teaser trailer confirmed a brighter and more upbeat take on the character after the dark and intense depiction in Zack Snyder’s Henry Cavill-led DCEU.

During the same interview, Brosnahan talked about James Gunn‘s take on the character and promised the film would have more comedic elements. Brosnahan stated (via Variety):

I feel like it’s being made with so much love. And I think this Superman will have a sense of humor.

Throughout Gunn’s filmography, humor has been a mainstay prominently featured in his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy.

However, in a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn revealed that the movie won’t be a comedy like his previous films. Nonetheless, the filmmaker confirmed the movie will have some humor. As a result, Gunn’s take promises to be very different from previous installments.
