The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake could be coming in 2025. At least, that’s according to an industry insider who claims it will be revealed very soon.
We all loved Oblivion, right? This entry in Bethesda’s flagship RPG series appealed to both fans of the genre and newcomers who wanted accessible passage into the foray of open-world adventures.
Popular for its huge open world and memorable quests, as well as a large number of charming bugs, Oblivion is still just as enjoyable today as it was nearly two decades ago.
While rumours of a remaster or remake of the 2006 game have been festering for years, we may have just got another indication that Bethesda plans to re-release the iconic RPG sometime in 2025.
As claimed by insider eXtas1s, the Oblivion remake is real and could be getting an official reveal at an Xbox Direct event in January [via Insider Gaming].
That’s not all, but he also suggests the remake could be released as early as 2025.
Of course, since this is a rumour we do recommend you take it with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation.
According to previous rumours, the Oblivion remake was allegedly being worked on by Virtuos, a studio specialising in external support for a variety of titles.
The developer has worked on games like Dead Island 2, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
Previous rumours also suggested it would be made in Unreal Engine 5, and a multi-platform release across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
These rumours first circulated after documents surfaced during FTC’s investigation into Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
The documents, dated from 2020, revealed that Bethesda were developing an Oblivion remake with a targeted 2022 release date. Since then, nothing else has been confirmed on the matter.
Additionally, a fan-made mod called Skyblivion which remakes Oblivion in Skyrim‘s engine is also due to release in 2025.
We’ll have to wait and see what news January brings. Given the number of Skyrim re-releases we’ve had over the years, it’s high time Oblivion finally got some love.
