Scarlet Witch #7 – written by Steve Orlando, with art by Lorenzo Tammetta – brings Nicholas Scratch face-to-face with the Scarlet Witch, her sons Wiccan and Speed, and her mysterious new protégé, Amaranth, as he seems to reclaim his spot as one of Marvel Comics’ major magic users.

Still harboring ill feelings for his mother and Wanda, the witch’s son concocts an evil plot that’s supposed to make the hero choose between her sons and the young sorceress she’s taken in as her student. What unfolds in the issue could eventually lead to a Harkness family reunion.
Following His MCU Appearance, Nicholas Scratch Returns To Marvel Comics To Haunt Wanda And Her Family

In stark contrast to how the character is represented in Marvel Studios’ Agatha All Along, Agatha Harkness’ son is a dastardly villain who holds his mother, and the universe’s superheroes, in contempt. Nicholas Scratch initially faced off against Marvel’s First Family in 1977’s Fantastic Four #185 by Len Wein, George Pérez, and Joe Sinnott, kidnapping both Agatha and Franklin Richards when she was the boy’s babysitter. After a long absence in Marvel Comics, Nicholas Scratch returned to the pages of Fantastic Four – written by Ryan North, with art Carlos Gómez – and now makes another exciting appearance in Scarlet Witch #7.
In this issue, Nicholas Scratch finally gets a real fight with the Scarlet Witch for the first time in his Marvel history. Though Scratch tries to set up a scheme that forces her to choose between both her children and the young potential sidekick in her care, Wanda and Amaranth are able to take him down fairly easily. With new witch’s “anti-magic” abilities, Amaranth causes Nicholas Scratch’s spells to wither and dies, leaving him totally stunned, before the Scarlet Witch delivers him to her Multiversal evil counterpart in the Witches’ Underworld.
The Scarlet Witch’s Mysterious New Student Could Bring The Harkness Family Back Together
Will Agatha & Her Son Finally Reunite In Marvel Comics?

Since Nicholas Scratch is left to fight his way out of Hell, he could grow as a Marvel sorcerer in the process and become integral to his mother’s current mission to destroy the Scarlet Witch’s brand-new sidekick. With Nicholas now establishing a vendetta against Amaranth, just as Agatha tries to eliminate her as a threat, maybe mother and son could finally reunite on better terms in the future. As Agatha’s popularity flourishes, stemming from her MCU series, her son could be used in a more prominent role moving forward as well.
While Nicholas’ tragic MCU debut in Agatha All Along reimagined him as the witch’s kindhearted son, his Marvel Comics return officially puts him in Scarlet Witch’s growing rogues gallery.
Though the return of Agatha’s son in Scarlet Witch #7 makes his potential as a threat seem a little underwhelming, it sets up a major comeback for the character, as he claws his way back from the Witches’ Underworld. Whether he comes back from hell to take on Wanda’s new sidekick, or Franklin Richards, Nicholas Scratch’s Marvel Comics history could be reaching a powerful turning point with his latest outing. While Nicholas’ tragic MCU debut in Agatha All Along reimagined him as the witch’s kindhearted son, his Marvel Comics return officially puts him in Scarlet Witch’s growing rogues gallery.
Scarlet Witch #7 is available now from Marvel Comics.
