“It’;s Getting Another Chane”: Netflix Officially Renews Dark Comedy For Season 2 After First Season Divided Critics & Audiences

Netflix has renewed Tom Segura’s dark comedy sketch series Bad Thoughts for a second season despite receiving a critic score of just 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. Segura led the cast of Bad Thoughts, playing various characters in concept-themed episodes ranging from “Success” and “Family” to “Love” and Health.” Bad Thoughts can feel like a twisted TV-MA version of Saturday Night Live, featuring multiple sketches throughout that each have unique and often vulgar twists. Season 1 of the dark comedy series premiered on May 13, 2025 and can be streamed exclusively on Netflix.

Variety exclusively reported the news of Bad Thoughts season 2 renewal. The announcement came along with a statement from Segura that reads, “We’re all so excited to push things further with Season 2. I promise your family will not approve of what we do.” Although Bad Thoughts season 2 currently has no set release date on Netflix, it could be released sometime later this year, given the short and snappy format of the show, consisting of just six episodes, all ranging from 17 to 22 minutes in length. That said, Netflix may want to expand Bad Thoughts with an increased number of episodes and runtime, similar to Tires season 2 starring Shane Gillis.

What Bad Thoughts Season 2 Renewal Means For Comedy On Netflix

Netflix Is Doubling Down Its Investments In Some Of The Biggest Names In Comedy

Some may be surprised to find out that Bad Thoughts season 2 got renewed on Netflix, given its mixed critical reception. To its credit, the Segura series earned a more favorable 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, demonstrating that plenty of Segura’s online fanbase transitioned positively over to the Netflix show. Even if Bad Thoughts viewers haven’t seen any of Segura’s multiple Netflix stand-up specials, they can’t deny his popularity on his various podcasts, which include Your Mom’s House with his wife Christina P, who also appears in Bad Thoughts season 1, and 2 Bears, 1 Cave with fellow comedian Bert Kreischer.

Tom Segura’s Bad Thoughts season 2 renewal speaks to a wider investment that Netflix is making at the forefront of modern comedy. Similar to Segura’s current situation, Shane Gillis’ scripted series Tires received a 40% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes following its season 1 debut in 2024, only to vastly improve to a rating of 71% with its second season, which released in early June 2025. After laying a foundation with Bad Thoughts season 1, viewers should expect Bad Thoughts season 2 to have more episodes and guest stars if Netflix follows the same trajectory as Tires.

Bad Thoughts season 1 had some hits and misses across its various sketches, with most of the comedy centered on rather provocative, shock-value punchlines that won’t be for everyone. That said, there are certainly enough Segura and Bad Thoughts season 1 fans to justify an expansion, which will almost certainly have more to offer fans in the form of an additional runtime and guest appearances.
