🧛♂️ Even Blade’s writer is DONE with Marvel?!
A former screenwriter just torched Marvel Studios — saying they’re too “lost” to even write a simple vampire script. 😬
💥 “You’ve got Blade. Vampires. Daywalker. That’s it. What’s the problem?”
📉 He says Marvel’s process is now so broken, it’s impossible to tell good stories.
👇 The inside rant is brutal — and kinda hard to disagree with:
What happens when one of Marvel’s most anticipated reboots — Blade — is derailed not by villains, but by studio indecision?
In a scathing interview that’s quickly gone viral across Hollywood and comic-book fandoms alike, a former writer attached to Marvel’s troubled Blade reboot has called out Marvel Studios directly, accusing them of overengineering what should’ve been a simple, gritty, fan-serving hit.
And if his claims are even half true… the MCU may be in deeper trouble than fans thought.
The Vampire Hunter’s Long, Bloody Road
Blade, originally scheduled to release in 2023, has now been delayed multiple times. Despite Mahershala Ali’s casting being announced back in 2019, the film has cycled through four directors, at least six screenwriters, and countless rewrites.
This latest writer — whose name was kept anonymous in the published interview with The Hollywood Reporter — didn’t hold back.
“You’ve got Blade. You’ve got vampires. You’ve got Mahershala Ali. That should write itself,” he said.
“But Marvel’s process is so broken now, you can’t get anything simple past 50 people giving notes. It’s death by committee.”
What Went Wrong?
According to the writer, the Blade reboot suffered from:
Constant tone shifts: “First it was horror. Then it was PG-13 action. Then back to horror-lite. No one could decide.”
Micromanagement: “Every line of dialogue went through ten executives and three VFX supervisors — before the director even saw it.”
Fear of risk: “They wanted edgy, but not too edgy. Cool, but still marketable in China. You can’t make Blade PG.”
At one point, he claimed that one draft had Blade as a supporting character in his own movie, with the story centering around a young female vampire hunter.
“I was like… you cast Mahershala Ali and then make him a sidekick? What are we doing?”
A Familiar Problem at Marvel?
This isn’t the first time Marvel’s writing process has been publicly criticized.
Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness admitted to large chunks being changed last-minute.
Secret Invasion was rewritten during production — and it showed.
The Marvels reportedly went through heavy reshoots due to unclear tone.
The common theme? Marvel’s creative pipeline — once tight and focused — is now bloated and reactive.
As one insider told Variety:
“They’re so busy setting up ‘what’s next’ that they forget to make what’s now actually good.”
Blade: Once a Sure Thing
What’s especially frustrating to fans is that Blade should’ve been a slam dunk.
The original 1998 Blade — starring Wesley Snipes — is still beloved and widely credited for laying the groundwork for modern superhero cinema.
With Mahershala Ali, a two-time Oscar winner, in the role, expectations were sky-high. But delays, budget disputes, and a lack of creative cohesion have turned the project into a punchline.
“They have gold in their hands, and they’re fumbling it because no one can agree on what they’re even making,” the writer said.
Mahershala Ali: Still On Board?
Sources say Ali is still attached to the role — but growing “increasingly frustrated” with delays. At one point in 2024, rumors swirled that he nearly exited the project after yet another script reset.
He’s kept quiet publicly, but insiders suggest he’s been pushing for a smaller, more character-driven version of the film — more like Logan, less like Doctor Strange 2.
Fan Reaction: Frustration Boiling Over
The internet has responded with a mix of anger, sadness, and a hint of “told you so.”
🔹 OG fans: “Blade used to be hardcore. Now Marvel’s trying to turn it into a Disney+ filler episode.”
🔹 Film critics: “This is a case study in how overplanning kills creativity.”
🔹 Younger viewers: “Wait… who even is Blade?”
On Reddit and X, the phrase “just make Blade kill vampires in the dark” has gone viral — a rallying cry for those tired of convoluted multiverse plots and studio bloat.
Will Blade Ever Happen?
According to updated reports, the current iteration of Blade is still slated for late 2026, but with a completely new script and possible tonal overhaul.
Rumors persist that Disney is considering releasing it as a Hulu or Disney+ original instead of theatrically — a move that could lower expectations but also raise alarms about budget cuts.
For now, production is paused — again.
Final Thoughts
The Blade reboot was supposed to bring bite back to the MCU. Instead, it’s becoming a case study in what happens when storytelling takes a back seat to corporate caution and franchise bloat.
“You had one job,” the writer said.
“Make Blade badass again. And they couldn’t even do that.”
If Marvel wants to reclaim its former glory, Blade might be the last chance to prove they still know how to tell a grounded, character-first story.
Otherwise… they’re just stabbing in the dark.
