Breathedge didn’t exactly wow when it landed four years ago, but its sequel is already shaping up to be a major improvement.

Blending the survival gameplay of Valheim with the intergalactic settings of Starfield and No Man’s Sky, Breathedge 2 is finally set to release in Q1 of 2026, so we’re talking January to March.

Developed by RedRuins Softworks and due to be published by HypeTrain Digital, Breathedge 2 sees players take to outer space as they attempt to build a life out there for their crew … and chicken.

“Breathedge 2 is an ironic retro-futuristic space survival game that continues the story of the Man facing epic intergalactic problems,” the synopsis reads.

“Together with your irreplaceable companions, try to put an end to the Breathedge Corporation without dying or going crazy in the process.”

Do you need to have played the first game? Well, yes and no.

You’ll definitely benefit from doing so but given that Breathedge 2 takes us to a new locale with new characters, there’s really nothing stopping you from diving in here.

The game consists of various zones, each with its own “visual features, colourful planets in the background, and, of course, dead passengers floating around”. Lovely.

Within each zone, you’ll be able to find important items you need for crafting and building but, of course, you will also encounter various enemies; craft supplies are in demand by all.

In addition to improving your spacecraft, so too will you actually have to manage your crew as it’s important that everyone plays their part.

Delegate tasks and you’ll be just fine.

Although, I wouldn’t delegate too many to the chicken; I’m not sure that’s going to do you any good.

As for why the crew has a chicken, I’ll be honest, I’ve got no idea but from what I gather, Breathedge and its sequel boast a silly sense of humour.

I’ll never say no to a bit of silly.

There’s no demo currently available for this one, although one did briefly land earlier this year where feedback was collected.

With that in mind, it stands to reason that another improved version should manifest prior to release so if you do fancy this one, I recommend giving it a wishlist so you’re kept in the loop.
