Let’s face it, although we are all eager for The Elder Scrolls VI to finally be released, it has a lot to live up to considering it will be the first Elder Scrolls title since Skyrim.

Since it was first released back in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has cemented itself in gaming’s hall of fame as one of the best RPGs of all time.

Receiving multiple remasters and millions of mods has meant that players are still drawn to the Bethesda classic after all these years and a recent discovery shows just how popular Skyrim still is.

Despite it being almost 15-years-old, as of 2025, Skyrim is still hitting incredible numbers on Steam and thanks to a post over on r/skyrim, we have the exact stats.

According to Steam DB and shared by user AdvancedContext4550, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is hitting its highest peak since 2016, the year which saw its Special Edition released.

More specifically, when the screenshot was taken two days ago, the game had received a 59,109 24-hour peak compared to its all-time peak of 69,906 8.3 years ago.

Perhaps even more impressive is that Skyrim was boasting an incredible 46,482 users playing at the time of the discovery.

This is an impressive number in general, never mind for a game that is well over a decade old.

However, this spike in numbers could be attributed to a recent sale as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition was just on sale for a mere $3.99 which is the lowest it has ever been.

User Ok_Concern1509 said, “It was on sale for 90% off recently. So, many people who were hesitant about the game have picked it up. I think a lot more people would play the game when Skyblivion drops.”

Whereas user Out_of_Fawkes summed it up perfectly when they said, “I crave the escape this game provides, especially now.”
