Take-Two is going to release GTA 6 and Borderland 4 together, making us wonder what’s their big plan.

For those who have been waiting more than a decade for Rockstar to be finally done with GTA 6, there’s some bad news. Owned by parent company Take-Two Interactive, both the Grand Theft Auto franchise and the Borderlands series come under the same umbrella, and a confirmed release timeline for Borderlands 4 has fans worrying if GTA 6 might be delayed.
Borderlands 4 will be released near GTA 6 | Gearbox Software
While it is true that the upcoming Rockstar title will arguably be the biggest release of the decade, netizens are still wondering why the head studio would decide to place the latest Borderlands title’s release in September, close to GTA 6‘s promised release in fall 2025.
Borderlands 4 and GTA 6 to release near each other: What is Take-Two thinking?
GTA 6 is the most anticipated game of all time | Rockstar Games
It would remain foolish of any game studio out there to release any of their games even anywhere near the release of GTA 6, which is exactly why the decision to release Borderlands 4 in September, according to the latest State of Play event, has left everyone confused. These studios are particularly known for focusing on maximum profits, so what would cause them to release two of their biggest launches right next to each other?
Many would see it as a cause to panic, as the rumors of a delay to the release of the next GTA are already spreading like wildfire and making rounds on the internet in recent times. Moreover, Rockstar Games has gone dead silent ever since they released the anticipated game’s trailer more than a year ago, which is not much assurance for the fans.
While it almost seems inevitable at this point, a delay to GTA 6 would cause a big but expected blow to fans’ expectations of getting to play the one game they have waited years for. If a delay is not in the cards, then Take-Two’s plan to release Borderlands 4 could possibly be the biggest gamble of all time.

Historically, whenever there has been a similar clash of release dates in the industry, one game has always suffered more than the other sales and players-wise. Even the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, said in an interview via Variety that it’s ‘unnecessary’ to stack up huge releases at the same time, making the studio’s latest decision seem hypocritical.
However, releasing Borderlands 4 just near, or even just before, GTA 6 could turn out to be the best-calculated risk of all time. As discussed earlier, nearly every other studio out there will be holding back any major releases till the hype for the next Grand Theft Auto dies down.
This ultimately opens up a small slot in the industry for a game to entertain these fans while they wait for GTA 6. It’s very possible that Take-Two saw this opportunity and is most potentially going for it, while also keeping their biggest release of the decade on the track at the same time.
