‘I Didn’t Expect This Many Tarnished!’: Elden Ring Nightreign’s Jaw-Dropping Steam Launch Defies Its Mixed Reviews, Pulling in Hordes of Players—Uncover Why This Co-Op Spin-Off Is Taking Over!

Three players fighting a large three-headed wolf Elden Ring Nightreign is finally here, giving us our first taste of what a proper FromSoftware multiplayer game feels like to play. Excitement was slightly dampened before going into the game’s launch, as the slightly tepid reviews claimed that this game may not be as excellent for those that are more used to FromSoftware’s previous, single-player-focused titles.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like the reviews affected Elden Ring Nightreign’s pulling power all that much, as the game has already amassed a ridiculous number of players at launch. After less than an hour, Elden Ring Nightreign has managed to achieve a peak player count of over 300,000, and at the time of writing, that count now sits at 313,593.

Elden Ring Nightreign Debuts To Over 300,000 Players On Steam

It’s a hugely impressive number, immediately making Elden Ring Nightreign one of the most successful games of the year, and this doesn’t even take into account players on other platforms like PlayStation and Xbox. It’s safe to say that people are hankering for more FromSoftware, and this number should rise pretty dramatically as we head into the weekend when more people can play.

It’s a success story in the making for sure, though we’ll have to see whether Elden Ring Nightreign can even get close to the game that came before it. Elden Ring managed to set an absolutely staggering peak player count of 953,426 back when it launched in 2022, so it’s fairly unlikely that Nightreign will match those numbers given that it’s more multiplayer-focused and will naturally drive more players away as a result.

However, its current peak player count is the third-biggest launch that we’ve seen this year, beating the likes of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Only Monster Hunter Wilds and Schedule 1 had bigger launches, and I will also stress again that this is an hour after launch. We’ll have to see how high Elden Ring Nightreign can climb.
