A video games analyst has claimed that there’s “hope” Grand Theft Auto 6 could be up to a $100 game, sending players everywhere reeling at these substantial costs. With its release set for Autumn 2025, gamers have been highly anticipating this sequel to the hit GTA V for a long time now, with the original still a beloved title to this day. Despite just the singular trailer release and a handful of details about it, it’s already massively projected to be a bestseller.

The video games analyst Matthew Ball recently shared his State of Video Gaming in 2025 report, documenting several ways the gaming industry could evolve throughout 2025. One of the largest focuses of this report, however, has been how GTA 6 may be one of the first games to raise prices to $80-$100. Due to the game’s outstanding popularity and almost guarantee of success, developers seem hopeful it could shift the expectation for pricing on other games too.

As it’s projected to make 3 billion within it’s first year, GTA 6 could certainly take advantage of its astounding popularity by raising prices. But it’s far from confirmed that this is what publisher Take-Two will actually be doing, with much of this just being a hopeful commentary of other developers who wish to recoup some of the growing AAA development costs. There’s no reason to believe that the game will launch with such high pricing, and while it may include special editions that could cost more, the base game is likely to be in line with industry standards.

It’s clear that a lot of the larger companies are perhaps struggling with this in mind though, as global inflation and development costs lead to more and more expensive games. Even with $70 price tags on some of the biggest hits out there, it would seem that this isn’t quite enough for many to stay afloat. Despite GTA 6 having just one trailer to precede its release so far, the esteem of the game would allow it to potentially increase its worth, but players shouldn’t fear this outcome based on this information alone.

While players probably won’t need to be splashing out any more money than expected for GTA 6, it’s certainly led to a lot of online discourse about the industry’s desire to raise prices. Some players have commented that they will not be purchasing the title if these changes do happen. This new standard might be leading players away from gaming rather than garnering these companies more money.

Though this isn’t the first time it’s been speculated that GTA 6 might raise prices, there’s not any confirmation for fans to truly need to worry about it just yet. With some players admitting they were “iffy on a $70 price tag“, it does seem that the industry might need to slow down on the raising prices of games. While Grand Theft Auto 6 might be able to push those limits, it seems questionable to do so when players clearly won’t be happy with such a change moving forward.
