No fan of The Walking Dead will ever forget the introduction of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Along with his arrival came the end of the road for Glenn, who had his head bashed in courtesy of Negan and his barbwire-covered bat, Lucille. Things have changed significantly in the years since, as Glenn’s widow, Maggie (Lauren Cohan), has become an unlikely ally with Negan in the hit spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Dead City.

The Season 2 finale of Dead City was aired on Sunday night, and it called back to Negan’s original introduction in the franchise. With a new Lucille, Negan got to play “eenie, meenie, miney, mo” once again to take out a dastardly foe. Witnessing the carnage was Maggie, who had to relive Glenn’s murder by watching Negan doing the same thing to someone else, regardless of the circumstances. In an interview with ScreenRant about the Dead City Season 2 finale, chief content officer Scott M. Gimple spoke about the possibility of Glenn making an on-screen appearance after this event.

“I think it comes to mind all the time,” Gimple said of Yeun’s possible return. “In some ways, it’s a pretty obvious way to go. But it would obviously be enjoyable for all of us. Steven is a remarkably busy dude, though – not to say that these folks aren’t. You never know, I guess I’d say, but we never went that far with it.“

Discussions to Bring Back Yeun as Glenn Haven’t Gone Far

Gimple appears to be suggesting that while an on-screen return for Glenn has been discussed, there have never been any concrete plans. Given that the series is now several years into the future past Glenn’s death, the options are limited for how to feature Glenn, though he could always pop up in a dream sequence, flashback, or hallucination. That’s happened many times in the past with other characters in the franchise, so it wouldn’t be unusual.

With that noted, Gimple also brings up a good point about Yeun’s schedule. Perhaps one reason why the talks to bring him back haven’t gone very far is that Yeun is not itching to return, having since moved on and kept busy with other big roles. He’s been so busy, in fact, that he had to drop out of a big-budget Marvel Studios film, Thunderbolts*, due to scheduling conflicts. Yeun has a role in Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s upcoming Netflix movie, The RIP, as well as an upcoming crime thriller called Animals, which also features Affleck. Yeun continues to voice the lead role in the animated series Invincible.
