Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch are at the heart of The Day of the Jackal, an intense, high-stakes thriller that has captivated audiences worldwide. In a recent interview, the two stars opened up about what drew them to their roles, the challenges they faced on set, and what makes this series a must-watch.
Why They Took on the Roles
For Lynch, stepping back into the world of MI6 was not something she had planned after No Time to Die. However, the depth of her character, Bianca, and the opportunity to take on a producer role ultimately convinced her. “It’s so different… TV allows you to really dive into the psychology of a character,” she explained.
Redmayne, on the other hand, was deeply influenced by the original Day of the Jackal film. “I grew up watching it on VHS, and there was something about Edward Fox’s performance—casually ruthless yet enigmatic—that fascinated me.” When he read the first three scripts of the new adaptation, he was hooked.
Behind the Scenes: Training & Fake Horses
The series required both actors to undergo rigorous training, including espionage tactics, combat skills, and even horse riding. Redmayne spent weeks training for horseback scenes—only to find out that, on filming day, he would be placed on a mechanical horse instead. “Why did I do three weeks of training for this?” he laughed.
Describing The Day of the Jackal
When asked to sum up the series in three words, the actors gave intriguing answers. Redmayne chose propulsive, elegant, and enigma, while Lynch added ugly, highlighting the raw and messy nature of both the characters and the story.
With twists at every turn, The Day of the Jackal keeps viewers on edge, proving itself to be more than just another spy thriller—it’s a cinematic experience that dives deep into the psyche of its characters.
