One Squid Game fan noticed that Park Min-su in Season 2 and VIP #3 (Deer Mask) are played by actors with identical names. “I did some digging and found that the actor that plays Min-su is David Lee and in Season 1, the actor that played VIP #3 is also named David Lee,” according to the Reddit post. “They kind of look similar, so I thought it was the same person but I’m not sure. Maybe two different people with the same name?” This stoked speculation over Min-su’s true identity, with some fans commenting that would be an insane plot twist coming into Season 3. However, others dug deeper in an attempt to validate the theory.

It’s confirmed that actor Lee David (Itaewon Class) is playing Park Min-su in Season 2; the contention over VIP #3’s identity revolves around his resemblance to Lee. In Season 1, the casting credits indicate VIP #3 was played by David Lee, which many believe is written in English nomenclature format (first name, last name). Season 2 writes Lee David’s name in Korean format (last name, first name). The theory can neither be debunked nor confirmed at the moment, but some dismiss this as a mere coincidence of two actors having the same name. Only the actor for VIP #3 can settle the debate, or if Netflix releases an official statement.

Squid Game Could Repeat Its Wildest Plot Twists In Season 3

Park Min-su (Player 125) barely survived Squid Game Season 2. Essentially an underdog character with an undeveloped arc, other players often used him as a pawn to swing votes or win eliminations. One moment hinted he could be a VIP, however. During the “Mingle” game, Thanos and Nam-gyu ditched Min-su when the round called players to form groups of two. That sequence didn’t show Min-su finding a partner or being locked out of the safe rooms. Considering the Front Man skipped the “Red Light, Green Light” game and went straight to vote casting, it’s also possible a VIP can opt out of games at a whim. Oh Il-nam did that when he lost to Seong Gi-hun at the end of Season 1’s marbles game.

Netflix dismissed a report that an A-list Hollywood actor would be playing a VIP in Squid Game Season 3. This was based on Lee Jung-jae’s comment during the 2022 Critics Choice Awards red carpet, where he revealed DiCaprio was a fan of the series. “[DiCaprio] said that he really enjoyed it and he said that despite the violence in it, because it looked really into the social issues of our day he really thought it was well made,” Lee told Extratv (translated). With Squid Game ending in Season 3, it’s likely the show will finally reveal the VIPs behind the operations.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed Netflix will expand the Squid Game universe with spinoff projects.
