An in-game message in Helldivers 2 may have confirmed that more stronger Illuminate enemies might soon make an appearance.

At the 2024 Game Awards, Arrowhead Game Studios announced the Omens of Tyranny update for Helldivers 2, which added the Illuminate, an enemy faction from the first Helldivers game. As per the game’s lore, some Illuminate forces managed to survive the First Galactic War and now, they are back to take their revenge. Shortly after the update’s announcement, it was confirmed that the Illuminate forces currently on the battlefield are not the entire faction.

Now, it seems like the time has come as an in-game message may have dropped a hint that more Illuminate forces are on their way. Things will get far more chaotic as players are already struggling to fight the existing Illuminate enemies.

Helldivers 2 players have reported that the Galactic Maps in their Super Destroyers have revealed that some Space Fluctuations have been detected. The community is convinced that more Illuminate forces are on their way and it seems like this time, they will be far more difficult to take down.
When the Omens of Tyranny update was announced in December, game director Mikael Eriksson told IGN that the initial invasion involved the Illuminate Vanguard Fleet, so more is yet to come. The Illuminate missions are indeed slightly more difficult than the Automaton and Terminid missions, however, players pull themselves up by their bootstraps as things will only get much more difficult now.
Players believe that this has something to do with the black hole in Meridia

A few months ago, Helldivers were ordered to destroy the planet Meridia of the Umlaut sector as Super Earth discovered a Terminid Supercolony on it. The community successfully managed to destroy the planet by injecting Dark Fluid into its core, however, its destruction formed a black hole. Many players came up with theories that this black hole will act as a wormhole between the past, present, and future.
A theory claimed that the Illuminate will use the black hole to travel from the past to the present. To some extent, this theory still might be true because the existing Illuminate enemies may have managed to discover the black hole, which will now allow them to call in reinforcements from the First Galactic War. The Illuminate faction from the first game consisted of some menacing enemies such as Obelisk, Strider, Illusionist, and Council Member.
The Omens of Tyranny update successfully managed to revive Helldivers 2‘s hype after it lost a major chunk of its player base due to various setbacks, the PSN account linking policy in particular. Arrowhead Game Studios’ new strategy has certainly saved the game, but will it continue to keep the players hooked? Only time will tell.
